Gear requirement for tactical carbine class

So i am planning on taking a carbine class (basic).

Looking at the website, there is a gear requirement, and some of the gear I do not have and wanted some opinions.

What I do have:
Ar15 with sling/ 3+mags/500 rnds
Sidearm-glock 17 with 3 mags/100 rnds

What I need:

-Sidearm holster
-Sidearm mag pouches
-Ar mag pouches and/dump pouch

I looked at this site http://www.tacticalyellowvisor.net/c...aining-classes which is a very good read, but I want some other opinions.

I have a cheap clip on holster for the glock but I do not like it. I was hoping to get a drop leg type setup for everything, and stay as cheap as possible because the only time I will be using this gear is for these classes.

I don't want a chest rig, just for personal preference.

So i need recommendations from you guys on:
Drop leg holster
9mm mag pouches
Ar mag holder/dump pouch

Cheap and drop leg holster don't go together or if they do you dont want it.

Any idea of your budget for gear?

If this is your first class then seriously don't splurge on a lot of stuff you wont use except for maybe taking future courses.

I would recommend:

Wilderness instructor's belt or similar.
OWB kydex holster and pistol mag pouch from Bladetech, Uncle Mike's, etc...
A couple of kydex AR mag pouches from Bladetech, Ready Tactical, etc...
A standard 3 fold dump pouch or foldup mini dump like on that page you linked would be suitable.

Depending on the range and course, one thing I do recommend is some decent knee pads.

Comtac OWB would work for your class , any type of belt magholders would work too , a good pair of shoes is a MUST , a hat and KNEEPADS . Those are the bare bones minimum . I use a vest and would recommend you to get one , especially if you are going to visit more courses . You can have them at a modest expense .

I'd look into putting together a nice war fighters belt if chest rigs are not your thing. I've seen some really good setups with rifle and pistol mags pouches, a dump pouch and of course pistol holster. They can be put together fairly cheaply to start, with knock-off pouches for your first class until you figure out what you want and what you like. I don't have any links handy, but you can google around and find what I'm talking about.

Why not get a regular belt holster for your G17 instead of a drop leg holster? You can use it if you decide to try out GSSF, IDPA or USPSA. Comptac and Bladetech are good brands.

Drop leg holster - Safariland. Not the cheapest, but the global standard. Also, unless you're wearing a plate carrier/chest rig, you might just want to go with a Safariland or Comptac belt holster. Will save you some $, too.

9mm mag pouches - I've been using ITW Fast Mags as of late and really like them. Check out other soft options from Blue Force Gear, Tactical Tailor, Original SOE Gear or pretty much anything on SKDTAC - all solid manufacturers.

Ar mag holder/dump pouch - Blue Force Gear or Maxpedition.

Most dump pouches will hold plenty of AR and pistol mags. I wouldn't go drop leg for a dump pouch. Go belt-mounted. You don't want a bunch of kit swinging around on your legs when you're trying to move.

Those are VERY well priced. SO I am assuming Kydex is the norm for quality holsters?

Kydex is the new "Norm" for tactical pistol w/ or w/o light and mag holsters. Most custom Kydex manufactuors have a 2-6 month turnaround. But Zero Concealment has a 30 day turn around with 7 dollar flat rate shipping. Made to order.

I ended up with an uncle mikes. After my first class I am going to upgrade most of the rig. I am still having some difficulty finding decent mag pouches that hold 10/20 and 10/30 pmags.

Uncle Mike's is good, inexpensive, will hold your sidearm securely and still allow smooth draws. For AR mag pouches, I prefer the ones from Ready Tactical. They are inexpensive and can be easily placed or removed from a belt. And I agree with Atekhed's gear recommendations.

Kytex gear makes the mag pouches you want. Cheap and they ship really fast.

The ones mentioned here from Ready Tactical work great with PMags and USGI metal ones. Even work with my Mini-14 mags.

get a bladetech or comptac.
The raven type are cool if you plan on carrying, but most people dont.
The bladetech style sits a bit more out board and aides in drawing with any other gear on or bulky clothing.
Custom kydex is "cool" but I suggest something a bit more practical.
