get a bore snake for the Mosin if you value your.....

time at more than $1.00/hour, and I'm not exaggerating.

All mine came with serious deposits that ONLY came out with snaking a dozen or more times after wasting HOURS on rodding with brushes and 4 diff 'compounds'.

The semi-worn, semi pitted barrel will grab a lot more metal of all kinds than a new polished tube. Not even "same animal" IMO.

PS-you need at least 2 matching Mosins, but 4-6 or more lined up in a rack on the wall is really cool.

like the guy said about the T34 tank. Quanity has a Quality all its own. the germens built great tanks, the ruskeys built lots of them.

what i've found best and cost effective for cheapies like you and me is simple green for the metal.

spray simple green all over every metal part including the bolt after you disassemble it. brush and scrub off all cosmoline. wipe down everything with old t shirt. spray brake cleaner and wash off all simple green and excess dirt. then spray cloth with gun lube and wipe every nook and cranny with oil for moisture protection.

hang your stock outside until all the cosmoline bleeds out or use a heat gun set at medium temperature and bleed it out yourself. then wipe the stock lightly with gun oil.

clean your barrel with water, gun solvent, and gun oil. and repeat the process until it's clean.

don't forget to lube the barrel bands before you take them off so you don't scratch your stock.

clean and lube the ammo pouches with boot oil or Armor All

your mosin will then be battle ready

                            To clean cosmoline:
                            Mineral spirits for the metal
                            Heat for the wood
Also put the bolt and oil can in the oven for a few minutes works too.

Hot water, simple green, lots of patches, bring out old shirts and wipe cosmo down. Get as much as you can out. Take it to the range and shoot it and that cosmo will come out everywhere. Have fun.
