Zombie defense ammo for HD?

First and foremost, I wouldnt use a novelty round to defend myself but I wanted to get a general opinion what say you guys?
Someone I know who is new to guns wants to use Hornady zombie rounds in his shotgun to home defense.
I told him that considering the warning labels all over it, and how in california a shooter may have to go to trial both civil and criminally and made look like a bad guy, it's legal yet a probably not a good idea. That and I will think he is gay and coming out of the closet for doing it.

What say you, little people who live in this magic future box?

I don't think there are any issues with actual laws. If he did have to use his gun in self defense, your buddy though needs to put himself in the shoes of a juror seeing that the shooter is using anti-Zombie novelty ammunition. If I were an anti-gun prosecutor trying to convince a jury that the shooter was just living out a life long fantasy of acting out a zombie movie, and was out to kill people for the sake of it, I would put the marketing material for this ammo as exhibit A.

I suppose my own commenting for fun in every zombie thread that pops up here could be used along the same lines, so what do I know?

Its the critical defense rounds in different packaging, shouldn't have any issues.

Me- I was looking for Hornady's Critical Defense rounds and asked the guy at the counter where they are. He said he was out, but the Zombie Max are the same rounds. I got a discount so I bought two boxes. I drove away and realized they are 115 grain and not 124. Oh well, I will use them in the baby Glock then for CCW.

For me, it's no big deal. I think your friend should be OK. But I'm not an expert either.

So otherwise its just a stupid ploy to get people to buy their ammo which they dont intend on you using for self defense..

I have some at home just for fun on my shelf. In my AR-15, I load up with a similar TAP round. It just has reliable nickel instead....but otherwise...pretty much the same.

To the point that others have made, while we say logically its no different. I can see its "usage" being used against someone in court.

Although the "experts" would frown upon using such ammunition, that it would slightly open the door to an overzealous prosecutor...

ultimately I personally believe the only thing that matters is whether you can prove clearly to the court that your life was in danger from an unlawful threat

if so, then it doesn't matter whether you used a rake, a frying pan, or novelty ammunition

it was in the gun when the threat arose, and you used what was available on hand

My novelty rounds of choice are: HST & Ranger Talon.

Why? Hoping these little gimmicky rounds will expand like Gold Dot, Hydra Shok, Quick Shok, Golden Saber, EFMJ, etc.

Ultimately, you're hoping they will perform their little novelty trick for you on that day. They seem to struggle with performance anxiety when doing it through glass.

Yeah. with so many good self defense choices, why pick something that the lawyer team slaps "do not use on humans" on the box.
