FTE problem with new Sig P226

I picked up my new Stainless Sig P226 9mm this past Wednesday and took it to the range on Friday. Ran a little over 100 rounds through it with no problems (Blazer Brass, PMC Bronze). Then all of a sudden it started having FTE issues. I initially thought that it was just getting dirty or didn't like the particular ammo I just switched to (tried American Eagle). I took it home, cleaned it up, and ran some snap caps through it. Went back to the range this morning and the problem is even worse. I can't get through more than 1 or 2 rounds without the FTE problem showing up again.

I have a SP2022 in 9mm that I bought a few months ago and have NEVER had any problems (after approx 1K rounds)

Before I contact Sig or a gunsmith, does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this problem?

Magazine feed lip problem? Have you tried other mags? That top round looks like it's riding high.

I used snap caps and the extractor seems to pull them out just fine.

I was kind of leaning towards the magazines as well. I'm using the factory mags (I believe made by Checkmate) and I've heard mostly negative comments about them. I wanted to buy some Mec-Gar mags anyway, so maybe I could try those and see if there are any problems. Just kind of weird how I went through about 100 rounds at first with no problems. I'd think mag issues would show up from the start.

If the problem got progressively worse, my guess would be something is up with the extractor. Maybe it's spring is the problem or the claw itself has worn down.

Easiest fix it to send it off to Sig and let them un-funk it.

By looking at the picture the only thing it can be is the extractor. The round fired, it is the extractors job to remove the case to meet the ejector. In that pict the extractor does not have control of the case.

What model 226 is that? The only 226 models I have seen have either an internal extractor or a short external extractor. That one looks like the one found on Sigs 1911's which is a long external extractor. I assume it is a newer design? Interesting.

i had a problem with my smith and wesson auto when it was new it wouldnt extract at random and all the emptys had like fingerprint marks engraved on them so i polished the chamber with some 600 grit paper

works like a charm

It is the standard stainless.
