    Transporting Firearms

I have 2006 Dodge Ram Extended-Cab that I use to when I go to the range. My guns are in (soft) guncases, the ammo and accessories are in a couple of carry bags. I am technically violating the law when comes to transporting firearms? I take my windshield sun-screen and use that to cover the back seat so nothing is visible. Tossing the stuff in a open bed of truck doesn't make a lot sense to me.

If they are long guns, they do not need to be locked in cases unless you are traveling through a gun free school zone. But handguns on the other hand need to be in locked cases. Of course all firearms are to be unloaded when transported.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I do the same as you, 'cept I own a Dakota.... I put a small, airline sized padlock on my range bag zipper pull-tabs just in case. Technically, they're locked!

^ This is how I transport my firearms even though I don't have to ( I don't have handguns). Makes me feel comfortable.

I have a G19, when I transport it I lock the slide back, put it in the Glock case it came in lock the case with the gun lock. Then i put the locked case in a backpack and put it on the back seat of my truck. I think its ok because its in a locked case, plus out of reach.

I have really well padded cases, so the guns go in the coverd bed
