    CA Approved Gun Locks

I got a couple of mosin's on order and I am trying to make sense how a CA approved cable lock is going to do me a whole lot of good on a a bolt action rifle?

Of course this is the guru's at big 5 suggest buying to get around the law. I have a decent gun cabinet I brought with me from out of state but of course it isn't on the list of awesomeness the state put together.

What do you guys suggest for a decent trigger lock for a bolt action rifle so I am not just paying a $22 throw away lock tax at big 5 to pick up my rifles?

My current alternative is buy these on amazon but again a cable lock:

BTW I realize I can open up the magazine and loop it through, but this doesn't seem like the best idea for transportation. Is there an alternative?

Cable locks are useless for transportation as far as legalities are concerned, unless you're using them to lock a secure container. A few handgun cases can use them for that purpose.

So I wouldn't let using them for transporting your mosins be part of the thinking here.

I'm guessing the Big5 guy is trying to have you avoid buying a cable lock to return it.

If you don't need to lock up the rifle at home, go to Walmart, buy two (show the current receipt), and then when you get them home, return the locks.

IIRC, you don't need a locked container when transporting a rifle, only handgun.

Yeah the return to walmart idea is a good idea...going to pick up a few today. Thanks!

Yeah I usually transport all of my firearms in a locked case.

The safe affidavit form provides for safes and cabinets that are not officially approved. (option 2) Read it. Whatever you do, don't write in just any approved safe number and perjure yourself. Our prisons are full of people who have done that.
