    S&W 4013TSW

40SW TACTICAL , I am picking up one of these in about a months time in mint condition.

In recent years i have passed up a number of these SW autos until now when this one grabbed my eye.

Anyone own one or had experience with one i would like to hear about its good and bad points, its visually a good looking gun and i am a sucker for graphics, which stand out on its slide.

In the hand for such a compact gun it feels very well balanced though it has more corners/angles than a fifties Cadillac.

SW made so many variants over the years, would this still be categorized as a 40 shorty.

    Your thoughts on this one.

Oh if you have any photos of your own Smith auto please post, i have searched on the site and don't come up with much to reference by.

I bought one new for about $650 around '97 or so. Its a neat gun. I like that its all metal, not a lot of all metal pistols coming out anymore. Its put together very tight. I replaced the original grip with a Hogue. The stock one is about as rough as a cheese gratter. Its amazingly accurate for only a 3.5" barrel. Its got some kick to it but not to bad. The weight helps out with that. Mag only holds 9rds. Kind of tricky putting it back together after cleaning. Theres two little metal tabs on the back of the frame that are hard to depress when reinstalling the slide. I'd love to get a 4006 to go with it someday.
My 4013 has been very reliable. I shoot it maybe twice a year or so and now you got me thinking about taking it out to the range this week. I get lots of people asking me about it. good luck.

My 4013TSW has been very dependable. Since its steel, recoil is reduced compared to the plastic frame wonders of similar size.

Only downside for me is lack of aftermarket sights.

I believe the last digit "3" denotes an aluminium alloy frame vice steel. That would be a "6" as last digit.

I owned one years ago. It was reliable and accurate (about on par with my 228/226).

I cracked the frame at around 22-25k. No reloads. Factory ammo only. 9mm

S&W 3rd gen autos are great.

Some small contract batches of 40S&W guns had some issues - the regular production ones seem fine.

I own several of 3rd Gen S&W autos and love 'em...
            - 2 x 4506 in 45ACP (early hook triggerguard + 2nd gen rounded guard "-1")
            - 1006 in 10mm
            - 915 in 9mm
            - 5906 in 9mm

              I got enamored with S&W autos for a while and picked up a few: CS9, CS45, 908, 910S, 4513, 5906, 3913, etc. They are great shooters.
