How do I properly sell my gun and spare ammunition?

    Hello all!

First off I apologize if this is not the proper forum for this type of question, or if this is answered in a FAQ somewhere that I have missed. I scanned through all the forums and this one seemed the most apropriate, as the Marketplace as I understand it is NOT the place to ask questions in.

I am new to gun owning and unfortunately find myself in a position where I need to pay the bills and have to part with this new hobby for the time being.

So as the title states, I have a pistol and around 10 sealed boxes of ammunition with some more partial boxes here and there.

Now as far as the pistol is concerned, I understand I must go through an FFL like Turners, which turns out to be where I got the pistol in the first place. And probably the safest way once I place an add on the Marketplace and have an interested party is to meet them at say turners and go from there. Is this all correct? Anything I should look out for or that I'm missing. Being so new to gun ownership it goes without saying I have no experience selling either and I don't want to find myself in an unsafe situation or do something illegal by accident. Will Turners handle all the paper work and hold on to the gun while they go through DROS etc? I want this to be completely legal and for the records to properly pass over to the new owner for obvious reasons.

And as far as the ammunition, am I correct that if it is a face to face sale I do not need to go through an FFL or anything? its 22lr pistol ammo so I assume the person needs to be 21. What should I do to prove this? Do I have to get a copy of their license during the sale? Should I just meet them at Turners as well? What would you all do to sell these.

Sorry if I sound so ignorant, it is just that I really am! Any help, advice or new info by all you veterans will be greatly and desperately appreciated.

    Thank you all.

After you find a buyer, you meet at a gun store and they handle all the paperwork. As the seller, all you have to do is show up, have a drivers licence, and sign your name than you are done. Someone will have to pay the $35 fee, usually its the buyer unless the two of you make different arengments. For the ammo, yes, just sell it to anyone over 21. You don;t need to keep any paperwork or meet anywhere special. Heck, I've met and bought ammo from people in gas station parking lots.

Yes post an ad on the for sale section and then go to an FFL and tell them you want to do a PPT and the FFL will take care of the rest. As far as the ammo just ask the person how old they are and if you really want to be a stick in the mud as to see their ID. Most people would refuse (i might).

Don't look to get what you paid for your pistol after DROS & TAX, at best look to get around $30-50 less then what the sticker price was.

What kind of pistol is it? i might be in the market if it's a Ruger MKII

First, tell us where you live. Also, pistol ammo can be sold to 18 year olds.

Pistol ammo can not be sold to 18 year olds in California. If the ammunition can be used in both a rifle and a pistol then it can be sold to an 18 year old, but only if the seller reasonably believes that the ammunition is going to be used as rifle ammo and not pistol ammo.
