Where can I shoot Brown Bear ammo?

    Evening Calgunners,

I am trying to find an outdoor shooting range that allows the use of Brown Bear 7.62X39 ammo. Standard FMJ with metal case. I went to Lytle Creek and was told that brown bear wasn't allowed...however they were selling it at the counter. Pretty interesting. I even asked to buy a box to prove a point. Anyway, I reside in Menifee but dont mind driving an hour or away to be allowed to shoot what i want. If anybody has any info please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Nowhere near you but you can shoot it at:

    Desert Marksman http://www.desertmarksmen.org/
Burbank Rifle and Revolver Club http://www.brrc.org/
    Winchester Canyon Gun Club http://www.wcgc.org/

No place in the greater LA area, other than BLM land, that I know of where you can shoot it besides these three.

Try dumping all the brown bear ammo you have into a box or plastic bag? What they don't know won't hurt them

I'm pretty sure you'll need to move up here to the northern half of the state. Here I shoot brown bear out of most of my rifles since it is a non-issue.

For rifles, you can shoot magnetic and non-brass cased ammunition (such as Wolf, Tula or any of the Bear products) at Shooters Paradise in Oxnard...

Or at least they never gave me trouble with my AK, nor did I explain or show them what ammo I was using, nor did they ask. But I haven't been there in well over 6 months, so I don't know if anything has changed.

Oak Tree Gun Club. You're 'not supposed to' but they don't check.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

Hodge rd below barstow. It's BLM land, it is probably 1.5 hours from Menifee but worth the trip.

I bet if you go there and show them the ammo or ask them, they will say no. Sin of omission.

and this is the kind of thinking that gets our outdoor ranges in socal burned down and closed.

Is the BLM 1N09 range still around, going up the mountain towards Big Bear? I used to shoot there all the time.
It's been a while since I've been in California, isn't there a lead free thing in the state as well?

The good old EPA has been fining and hassling indoor shooting ranges for "lead contamination" here. Duh, it's a shooting range, of course it is going to have higher levels of atmospheric lead. What it really is, is a lightly disguised method of threatening, fining and hassling law-abiding business owners and their patrons (us).

There are also lead free concerns in certain hunting areas but I am not a hunter so I am not really up on the specifics. Basically, the anti-gun forces in this state will use any means available to stop us from owning and shooting firearms. We are viewed suspect at best and as criminals by most. It is insane that the voters and casual shooters in this state have not wised up to see that we are regarded as 2nd or 3rd class citizens here. All you have to do is read this board for a few weeks and you will see what we, as California shooters, are up against.

FYI, I do know that Barnes Bullets had a lot to do with California going to the lead-free movement, which is why I refuse to use their products. There's even people/companies that are on "our side" that are doing harm in search for the all powerful dollar.

I try to point that out every time I see a post about our "stupid" gun laws and our "stupid" politicians.

"They" are not stupid and our laws make perfect sense if your ultimate goal is the disarming of the law abiding populace.

Awesome. Thanks for the responses. I actually went by hodge road for some target practice and it wasn't half bad. It was fairly deserted and not too rough of a place to find. Next time tho, gotta bring a few trash bags due to the amount of shells/casings left over.
