Does ammo usually get damaged during shipping?

I placed just my 2nd online ammo order last week. Got home from work today and saw a box at the front door that was beat up, with 2 gaping holes in opposite corners. I peaked inside and discovered that this was my ammo order. Took it to the garage and emptied out the contents to verify everything was there - found out that one box of 9mm was missing. Also noticed that the majority of the individual boxes inside were damaged. I haven't had time to fully inspect things, but hoping that the individual rounds weren't damaged.

Since I have little experience with ordering ammo online, I'm wondering how often this happens to others? I like the fact that I can buy cheaper online, but I don't think it's worth it if the trade-off is potentially damaged goods all the time.

I've only ordered ammo online 5 times in my life, with all but one order being large-ish (>500 rounds), and I've never had such a problem.

Sounds like an issue with the carrier. I was under the impression that ammo was supposed to be signed-for, but I could be mistaken.

The boxes may be messed up but the ammo will be fine.

I have received many shipments of ammo, some small, others large. I haven't ever had any arrive damaged or missing contents.

Signature is not a default requirement, but may be specified by the vendor.

Watch out for the rounds that have the bullets seated extra deep!

I have had pretty good luck, including an order of 2,500 rounds of 9mm. It all depends on the carrier and the specific driver.

Contact the shipping company and submit a claim. I've never had a problem before.

I have order ammo online since 2003 and never had damage ammo, maybe a beat up box but that's about it, I order ammo atleast 2ce a month.

Only problem I had was some Remington UMC "shooters packs". It's basically 5 boxes of ammo sitting on top of each other in trays in the same box. The problem is the weight of the top rounds put pressure on the ones on the bottom and in rough handling I saw bullet setback.

That has been the only problem I have had. I've probably made 15 online ammo purchases total.

At a UPS hub that I used to service the Engineers "Maintenance" guys used to have a rather large collection of loose ammo from boxes that would blow apart from being re-located "thrown". One of the guys had well over 500 rounds from one month.

Never had any problems when buying cases (1,000 rnds), but I'm out in the sticks and it's usually UPS guys who bring it out. I's contact the vendor to make them aware of the incident . . .

That sounds like what happened to me. I'm missing one 50rd box of 9mm from my order. Based on the size of the holes in the shipping box, a small box of 9mm could have fallen out or the delivery man could have easily reached inside and pulled it out on purpose.

Either way, I'm going to call tomorrow morning and put in a claim/complaint.
