    Notaclipamagazine's Cast .45 Reload Testing

A redditor reached out to the internet community test out some .45 reloads and I was lucky enough to be the first one to volunteer. They consisted of three 200gr bullet types (SWC, FP, and HP). The goal was to see how they performed accuracy wise and ballistically. Load was 7.2gr of Unique and distance to targets was 7 yards. Feel free to give the video a once over and let me know what you think.

    HOLY COW.....................

    7.2g's of Unique ????????????????????

I load 5g-6g of unique when loading cast lead.

I think 7+ is for jacketed.

Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.

I'm going straight from the book in regards to cast 200 gr bullets. I checked the barrel afterwards, no leading, so I'm pretty confident that load works well....Also....damn, good shooting!

To painful to watch the shooter muzzle his support hand and violate the 180 rule.

At no point did my hand ever pass in front of the muzzle. I used my support hand to grab the slide near the front post to remove a dud bullet with a dented primer, but my hand never passed the front of the slide. 180 rule? I'm not making an action movie, lol.

oh lord, this discussion is fraught with firearm nomenclature obliviousness.
What he means by 180 rule is you are sweeping others with your barrel, not yourself.

at 4:02 the shooter says 230 grain full metal jackets. So that would mean they are "copper plated", correct?

Weren't all the bullets shown at the begining and they were all cast lead? Yes?

This is painful to watch, because there might be new reloaders out there using this informaiton in the video.

I've loaded up a lot of rounds, and lost a few barrels, and just want to jump in and save others from my pains and paths I've taken to get where I am now.

                Hmmm

Just my observation and thoughts.....................After watching the video it seems like the reloader is new to reloading and was proud of the fact he actually made his own bullets. Shooting offhand at targets without bracing against a rest or wall is useless at best especially when trying to confirm accuracy of one bullet to another. At 7yds there shouldn't have been that big a difference on group size between the three bullet types. Nice well done video though.

I thought everyone might have been a little overly cautious in there warning, but after watching the video, I was wrong.

You are sweeping your muzzle well pass 180 degrees

I'm not sure how what your test was meant to determine. At 7 yards, all the round should be on top of each other or at the worst within 1"...and that is from a standing position. It really should have been off a bench and shot at at least 25 yards with groups running about 2"...if you can't do that, it might be the limited by the gun you are using

Ok, you clearly did not pay attention to the video at all. I swept the camera on a tripod, even then, pointed at the ground. This does not equal sweeping people. I clearly stated that I loaded all the lead rounds (which I explained were ALL 200gr) to the same powder load. Look at the end of the video, is there an FMJ sitting there on the table as well? I think so. I'm new to the concept of SWC's not reloading, no need to patronize me there. Again, I admitted I'm a ****ty shot and this was just some basic testing. If it'll make everyone feel better, I'll take a picture of the Lyman reloading manual page with the powder charge. It maxes out at 7.5 and I loaded to 7.2 for CAST LEAD 200gr bullets. I've checked those against load data from other sources and it ran just fine. You didn't see my wrist breaking off from the recoil. Man calguns, what gives?

Well, the thing is it came across as an attempted scientific comparison in loads, and accuracy.

As mentioned above, the accuracy should have basically been punching out the red bulls-eye at 7 yards/

I’m guessing the accuracy differences were a function of your shooting more throughout the range session. Wasn’t the worst accuracy result the “first” target? As you got more comfortable with the gun the accuracy improved greatly.

Also, there were a few times it looks like you had to clear a jam. Does it do that with factory ammo?

I will confess, I’ve made some rounds that feed horribly, and reliability is much of a science as accuracy. Finding the happy medium that is usable in multiple guns is the challenge.

Actually, I shot the HP rounds first, but edited it in last in line. All ammo was reloads, just a bum primer.

You asked for opinions. Why are you complaining that you got them?

Couldn't watch the whole video. Your stance kept changing which might have been part of the reason for the inaccuracy.
