    Phoenix area stores worth visiting

I am going to be going out to Phoenix for a couple of days and will be driving from the central coast. I am hoping to pickup some reloading equipment and supplies during my trip, as well as do some window shopping.

Can anyone recommend a shop or two that I should visit? My emphasis would be on the availability of reloading gear, but a good gun shop with lots of eye candy would be a close second.

There's a Cabela's right near the University of Phoenix (Cardinals) stadium in Glendale where I stop to stock up on ammo. There's also a Bass Pro Shop in Mesa. If you want eye candy, you must visit the Scottsdale Gun Club just to see what is available in a free state. I cannot speak specifically to the reloading gear, but you can check their websites.

Visit the Dillon showroom in Scottsdale. They have all you need for reloading equipment.

Do you know if you can purchase items from the "showroom"?

If J&G Sales in Prescott is typical of showrooms across AZ, there are signs all over the store geared specifically towards CA customers. Some things they flat-out won't sell you; others items, once released to you come with the caveat, "Once you cross the border, it's all on you."

And I've heard rumor that there are unmarked cars in the area spotting vehicles with CA plates. Could be this is just conjecture / conspiracy theory, but I'm passing it on for your own judgment call.

I have heard that to, but considering I have been going back and forth between AZ and CA multiple times a year for almost 10 years now, always going to a gun store at some point and have never seen / heard of this I would say rumor.

Also have a buddy who works with the police in AZ alot and he has never mentioned it to me.

The only time I even have had to stop at the border was on the 40. I had a ball python with me and somehow the lady who asked about the tupperware that said "Live Snake" on it heard "King Cobra" - dont ask I dont know. THAT was a fun talk with her management + show and tell with the snake.

If you go to the Scottsdale Gun Club (highly recommended), walk across the walkway and also visit www.usautoweapons.com Oh my gosh, that place is amazing. They have walls and walls of NFA items, all kinds of fun toys. I bought my Ruger SR22 while I was there. Nice people too.

Well, if you want some reloading supplies head to the Dillon showroom. Down the road a short ways is Scottsdale gun club and US autoweapons. They have some very nice (pricey) things on display. They are the best laid out stores in the Phoenix area. If you have some time and extra cash you can rent a machine gun at Scottsdale gun club to use in their indoor range, if you're into that sort of thing. If you're looking to buy stuff though, they can be on the pricey side.

That they have a Cabela's there is valuable. I hope to have time to see other places, but I know Cabela's should have the things I like to see, and they are open later than typical gun stores.

As for un marked cops watching for California residents; that is a wild notion. I would think they would have better things to worry about than a young professional man shopping for a few outdoor supplies. But hey, I have heard crazier things.

The Dillon showroom, has their reloaders set up so you can view them and most of their products are also on display. Yes, you can purchase everything there. Their warehouse is connected to the showroom, so the chance of being out of stock is highly unlikely. The showroom is small, my estimate is approximately 800 square feet.
