Looks similar to my preferred .45ACP carry load, the Federal 230 HST.
It’s a handful from my DW CBT, but should do the trick if I can connect.

I use 3 rounds. I use critical duty in my .40 tactical and Speer gold dots in my .40 edc. I use critical defense in my .45. She don't like feeding the dots lol.

Interesting how some pistols prefer certain bullet profiles over others. The litmus test I use to evaluate any .45ACP self-loader in that regard is to fire some of the Speer 200 JHP from the 1980’s, aka the “Flying Ashtray”, without any hickups.

That's what I thought. It's as if the boolet design is properitary to the 9mm cartridge (or so some here would have one believe). I can believe that it is a function velocity and boolet weight. Maybe it is more a function of sales. More follow the subscription of 9mm so that moves easier.

I remember that round - Speer “flying ashtray “ 200gr round, I sent a few 1911’s to hoag and king just to make sure they could chamber and then fire in my PoPs Colts.

Those 45 HP’s sure can impress once they reach their full potential 😁

For older 1911's it's the feed ramps that have always been an issue with feeding some JHP's as they were designed for fmj or ball ammo. No matter what pistol I have I have always done one thing. That's take 3-4 boxes of defense ammo that I want to use and run it thru the weapon in one sitting to make sure it feeds it. Why I finally decided to go with critical duty/defense in a lot of cases. I work over nights too so stuffing is a factor for me. I do like me a 165 grain Speer in .40 or a 125 grain if I'm running my .357 sig barrel in my XDs though. My XD's have 0 issues feeding the gold dots reliably.

Recently I happen to find a few boxes of that exact bullet (component) in original, unopened, sealed Speer 100/ct boxes, so I scooped them up for a very cheap price. Those bring me back to when there were very few, if any, factory “customized” 1911-based pistols available. I too have a number of Colts that were worked over by the long ago specialty gunsmiths who are no longer around. I also remember when Springfield Armory started out by selling frames, slides, and barrels. That was all they sold, and later started selling whole pistols. For a time, that was a very good option for a semi-custom build. It still can be, but with today’s many and varied options, there is not as much demand.
But yea, those “Flying Ashtrays”…my reloading journal shows that I used a fair charge of Blue Dot to get them going. Over forty years ago. Good times!

I load 45acp 200gr semi wadcutters for my 1911s. Not for defensive loads. I got my son in laws a S&W M&P 45 years ago. I anticipated that it might not feed the swc bullets so bought some round nose bullets. Loaded them for him. It ended up feeding both bullet profiles perfectly. I haven't had trouble with the several hollow points we've shot in both guns.
