    Gun Storage suggestions?

I'm posting this to see if anyone has an idea I hadn't considered. I'm looking for better gun storage but conventional safes don't seem to be doing it for me. Let me explain.

I have an immediate need pistol in a hand safe for those sudden emergencies that crop up. I want the rest (4 pistols, a rifle and 2 shotguns) in a secure location but I'm not looking for an armory -- you know those safes you see with 8 fully loaded rifles in the rack and 3 pistols in pockets in the door, just sitting ready for the militia to deploy, etc. That's not what I need. I'd just as soon keep my pistols and rifles in their range bags so that all I have to do is remove the bag from the cabinet and go.

Gun safes and cabinets that are big enough to have an entire side of adjustable shelves are BIG and in the high thousands. Taking a metal storage cabinet for garage or office use means cutting huge square holes in each of the shelves so the rifles can poke through, which is a lot of work with lots of room for error.

Anyway that's my idea and usually when I need something I can't find it's just because I haven't looked in the right spot.

    Suggestions anyone?

The problem with our legislature is NOT that they hate guns. The problem is that they hate the people who don't hate guns.

What about storing them horizontally like in a truck bed tool box in a closet or something? Not quiet sure what your looking for. Those Stack On gun cabinets are pretty cheap

Interesting Idea. I'd been thinking of a standup cabinet. Horizontal would solve one problem - now I'll see if I have the room

A job box might work. I have ammo stored in one of those 4 foot Husky boxes. There are two padlock openings and they’re at least as stout as a cheap rsc like stack on, etc.

What about those under the bed gun cabinets. You can put 2 side by side and access each one from each side of the bed.

Always buy bigger than you need, they somehow just fill up.

you can buy good quality safes for just a few hundred from people who are moving. You just have to get it, but you cna get great deals. I have bought more than one $2,000+ Liberty etc. for $400.

I use this for my CCW pistols which I also use for night time creepers Hornady 2 gun with finger buttons or key access . Its not burglar proof with time, but its kid and dumb adult easy fast access proof .

I also have a shotgun simplex wall mount for a single 12ga in my closet. Again, can be pried open with a crowbar, but is not an easy pickings smash and grab. If I'm leaving the home for long time Ill put them in the real safe.

Do you have an extra closet? Fit it with a sold wood door, a heavy front door lock and deadbolt, beefy hinges, and long fasteners on the strike plates. Not as secure as a safe but a lot more secure than a normal closet. Lots of space and easy access at low cost.

Do you own or rent? I see amazing safes posted for sale used... I would always rather have a used tool resistant safe - heavy as hell - than something that can be opened with $20 of harbor freight or WEN tools in a few minutes.

If you rent - more safe that are smaller are better...

Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                    (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

^^ I have one of these for when the time comes and I have to empty the safe in an emergency. Earthquake, evacuations, etc. I have a bunch of microfiber cloths in there to wrap each pistol. I can put 10 handguns in here. For range use..I have a Seahorse case that holds 4 pistols with an open storage spot in the center for ammo/mags/ear or eye pro/etc. But for an emergency it's the Ridgid case.

I have another one of these Ridgid cases filled with all the various calibers of ammo I use for all firearms. Range and HD ammo for all handguns/rifles/shotguns. (Another grab and go in an emergency case.)

^^ I'm looking at one of these for my rifles. Break them down and toss them in here with microfiber towels wrapped around each one. The shotguns will go into a few soft bags I have since they can't be broken down. I do have one of the big rolling Pelican cases. But it's so big and cumbersome I'm thinking of selling it and getting the rolling Ridgid case instead. I thinks it's faster and easier to load n go.

All of these can be locked. (Mine already are.) Plus they have handles so you can lock them to something else. And I can also stack the smaller boxes onto the big box with rolling wheels for ease of moving.

If fireproof safes or those that are more resistant to break-in are not necessary, you can get Stack-On gun cabinets for two hundred bucks, light and small enough to put into a closet since you say you only have three long guns and four pistols. Stack-Ons are cheap and are lockable, compliant with CA commie laws, but a determined thief can get into one take the guns. But one can say this about most of the residential safes anyways.
