    Bro wants to know ~

Bro called me to give him an answer on what pistol he needs for a ccw.

He wanted to know what to buy ~ here’s his picks.
    S&W shield x
    sig macro comp
hellcat pro or hellcat pro comp

In like cheeeet man I don’t know, I don’t own any of those 3.

So, I come here to CG’s so you’all can give me some advice to relay to him, so then he might have a better understanding of what to pick.

He knows guns, but doesn’t really practice a whole lot, and he knows he wants the firearm in 9mm.

SIG Macro. You can swap out the polymer frame for alloy down the road.

Which one feels best in his hand?
          It's really that simple.
He needs to go put his hand on all 3 of them and then decide.
Nobody here can tell him which one he will like they best.
Everyone here will tell him which one THEY like the best, which is not useful to him as THEY are not HIM.

For me it would be between the Sig and the Springfield. Although I'd pass on the comp versions. He could do more with the Sig as far as swapping parts around, and the grip size. I'm running mine with a Wilson Combat XL grip module, and an XL slide with a Holosun green dot. As it warms up and clothing changes I may put the standard grip module on it, along with the 3.1 inch slide also with a green dot. It's kind of nice to have options when the weather turns to make the gun easier to conceal, while staying in the same platform and manual of arms with one gun.

              ar15barrels -

True, my brother was probably thinking they were built the same.

I do not owe any of the 3 mentioned, but I told him I would ask here.

I handled a hellcat pro - seemed very slim but reviews say the trigger is so so and the pistol has some muzzle flip during recoil. Again that’s just from internet reviews and I have no experience to confirm that.

I’ll just tell him he needs to go to the local shop and see what’s what. Thanks.

My primary is the P365 plain jane version. I just can't see paying the extra $$$ for the flat trigger version. The trigger is pretty good, WAY better than a Glock. Don't know comparative to a SW.

I've carried SW J frame, 1911's and Glocks.

Now the coolness factor has been purged from me I'm finding the P365 just fills the role the best for me. Maxes the capacity we are allowed, has a Red Dot option to it, and conceals as well as anything out there. The cylinder of the revolver poked my side and a semi auto is easier to carry flat against you.

I would NOT recommend the Comp versions of anything. I play around with Comps. I build my own OPEN CLASS competition guns with Comps, and frankly, I personally RELOAD my own ammo for said compensator guns. Comps are going to be AMMO SPECIFIC. Understand that. If you don't reload, and you buy a Comp version you are going to be trapped not finding your preferred ammo eventually and here in CA our means to just go out and hunt for our desired ammo is greatly limited.

For me....... meh, whatever, I reload I'll just MAKE IT WORK, but if you can't do that...........welp.......................

                *****************

OP's choices are solid choices if one is happy with Comp ammo limitations. As far as CCW choices go consider this:
                1) Utility (concealability, capacity, caliber, red dot capable)
                2) Reliability (OP's choices are solid makes for reliability)
                3) Diversity (all the guns the OP listed are basically redundant in my book, may as well buy three of the same make and model).

Of those listed, I'd go with the Shield X or the Hellcat Pro, because both of those are non compensated. But I went with the plain jane P365 because welp, it's the same utility in a smaller package.

I'm of the opinion ANY gun can be shot WELL by ANYONE. We just have to practice and familiarize ourselves with it. Plus, CCW firearms are not ideal shooting platforms anyway. Split hairs over "how it feels in the hand", if that's the case, just go with a full size gun then and deal with concealability.
Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.

Thank you Snoopy47 for that information appreciate it.

I myself would like a standard non comp firearm, the way I figure it, I need the maximum velocity for my 9mm to work well, and in a close situation were there might be a close up fight / wrestling match I would not prefer to have gasses / power burns on my arms / face.

That’s just me though and I can understand the idea that comps are used for recoil reduction / helping ya get back on target. Ok

Again - I myself have not shot any of the above ( held a hellcat pro with red dot ) and the hellcat pro was thin, but again no experience with the 3 above pistols.

Thank you all for your post and if ya know a bit more post away. Thanks 🙂

Cali, see if there's a place around where he lives that rents them. Have him try before he buys .
