New S&W revolvers - Shot Show 2026

Now, if they actually work…we will see.
Too many lemons lately from S&W to be enthused by this. Saw one (686) last week that was about as useless as a pile of hot dog crap smeared on a sidewalk.
Hopefully Lipsey’s will get better treatment.
On a more positive note, my brand new 640 from Lipseys shoots to point of aim, and everything else about it seems good so far. No lock either.Last edited by splithoof; 01-21-2026, 11:11 PM. -
Ugh, still transfer bar though.
I had something similar in the 80's, it had the matte black finish and round butt. It was a 586, so carbon steel.Comment

What does a revolver have to do to pass on to the ca roster ? They are kinda simple - I had 1 S&W 686 + 357 magnum that couldn’t pass the ca requirements.MODEL 396 NIGHT GUARD | Smith & Wesson

Nightguards are 3” barreled, 7 shot, k frame models ~ or is that just too dangerous for us simple folk here in ca..

Usually about $75 extra to convert it back. Better than 50-75% above MSRP to a peace officer for off- roster.👐🏻These revolvers can be brought into California using SAE.

I had not bought a new S&W Revolver since 2003 when the .500-Magnum came out.
But just a few weeks ago, I was in Riflegear buying something else I purchased online, and they had a 'TALO Exclusive' edition, round butt, 3" 629 on sale for $1,069.
I saw it online, and since I was in the store anyway to do a DROS, asked to see it as they only had 1 left in inventory.
It reminded me of the Lew Horton 3" guns so much, that after making sure the sights weren't canted (which apparently has become an epidemic with S&W revolvers the past several years) and that the machining around the forcing cone and lock-up weren't their usual slop, I added it to the same DROS.
Only thing I wish it had was an unfluted cylinder and no Hitlery bunghole, but it's still a really nice gun that was a good example of the rare times now days when S&W gets it right.

Mike Wood, owner of The Revolver Guy website, is a stand-up guy who is very selective about who can submit articles for his site. If I read it there, I have confidence the info will be very correct.Interesting article discusses "CA firing pins" and recurring S&W QC issues, see comments as well:

The aspect of that process that concerns me is that some gun counter fool/monkey removes the side plate, and plays with it. One more potential point of damage, stripped threads, use of the wrong type of screwdriver, lost screws, improper re-installation, etc.
