I used to have a blm shooting range about 5 miles away from my house. It's been closed down for over 20+ years now because people wouldn't pick up their trash and shot up household appliances

I use to go shooting at the old Kentucky ( public ) shooting spot. Didn’t last too long, they closed it down.

Only time I ever went to a designated shooting area in Angeles National Forest, was when I was scavenging for replacement parts from old washing machines and TVs.

Let's face it. There are no places within driving distance to Los Angeles where you can expect unsupervised idiots to target shoot, camp, or even picnic without making a mess of things. Most of the money collected by the "adventure passes" goes to removing trash and graffiti, and not improving picnic/camp facilities, or repairing trails.

Hahaha, I use to go to Lyle Creek a lot. I was up there when a guy fired some type of homemade mortar setting the side of the mountain on fire. Another time some Hispanic chaps with short hair cuts pull up in their car, rolled down the windows, yelled “Pomona” then two on the passenger side shot out the windows at an old water heater in the wash. They then drove off without ever getting out of their car.

My last time there was in the 80s when on our way out seen some kid shooting point blank into an old tire rim that was laying on the ground that's what my dad said nope no more of that place

I hate to say it, but IMO way too many folks who shoot are an extension of the trash they shoot at. I am a long-time member of a private club, but even there I routinely observe bad gun handling. Some of them are living proof that a dildo can drive a car, own a gun, and attempt to shoot it.
Some day if I can get out of this state, I will have my very own private range, nobody else, and no BS.

Now when I went out to Hodge road well I should say when I drove through it I didn't stop the amount of trash everywhere I felt like that Indian guy in that commercial with the tear coming down his eye and I'm not even Indian

A friend of mine from back in hi school might not agree..neither do I. Unfortunately for him, he is now permanently in a wheelchair because of some dildo at a public shooting area “accidentally” fired his gun in the wrong direction. Some right of passage that turned out to be.

I belong to two private membership outdoor ranges. At both of them I always have a complete pistol bay available. I can set up steel or cardboard targets across the whole bay. Once we got talked into going to a public land free for all on Thanksgiving morning. Wife is shooting her 9mm and BOOM right next to us a guy shooting a .308. You couldn't put much in the way of targets out because people would shoot them. My wife thought having a private bay to shoot was the norm. Now she really appreciates it.
