I was thinking. If I bought a Maverick 88 and kept it in the bedroom closet, it would be easily accessible in an emergency, and if it got stolen, I'm only out 200 bucks. I have a trigger lock that I could unlock/lock as needed when the teens are home. Is this a bad idea?

My dad has the exact same gun in his closet.. He took it from my office and put it under his bed. Good gun, cheap ($150), and works. If it gets lost, its not that big of a deal. Will trade liquor/wine/beer for parts and accesories and ammo! PM me. Dont drink n shoot. Offer void where prohibited. Must be 21 or older, etc. etc.

That's what I'm thinking. I've banging my head on a small pistol, then where to keep it, then is there a safe, then can't drill into my wife's oak furniture. Blah, blah, blah. After awhile, it feels like $200 is an easy bet.RKBA Clock: soap box, ballot box, jury box, cartridge box (Say When!)

Do you feel comfortable having your life rely on a Maverick 88?
I don't know anything about them really other than they are a cheap shotgun so I certainly would search for info on people who have run them through rigorous tests. If they have problems out of the box which you can't easily fix then that's important.

Agree with the part of it being stolen, its not the fact you are out money, but another criminal with a gun.Comment

If you're trying to hide a small go to HD pistol, why not just mount some rare earth magnets under a dresser and stick the pistol onto them? There's a commercial version of this but I can see this being a very easy DIY job.
Personally I may go with one of these for my HD shotgun"Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."Comment

Everything I read about the Maverick tells me the answer is yes.
Maverick is owned by Mossberg and assembled in Eagle Pass, TX. I belive many of the parts interchange with Mossberg 500.
FTR, I bought a Mossberg 500 instead of the Maverick. I paid $100 more and got a 20" Barrel, 7 shot capacity, improved Trigger, and Fiber Optic front sight. However, I was very impressed by the Maverick and I see nothing but positive reviews from owners.
Most of the negative opinions come from guys who have never even held a Maverick.God Did Not Create All Men Equal, Colonel Colt Did.
