Thinking About Picking Up a Cheap Beater 9mm

    Hello everyone,

I have been going through my gun collection, and noticed two things. First, all the guns I own now are pretty old mil spec guns. Luger P08s, old HPs, AC 43 Walther P38, and so on and so forth. Secondly, I like to plink around at the range, but it feels like I am commiting a crime anytime I shoot one of the aforementioned guns. I use a Mossberg 500 as my home defense weapon, but I kind of want a beater 9mm Pistol to plink around with at the range without constantly worrying about scratching the finish or damaging a historical artifact. That being said, I am also not interested in paying more than a couple of hundred bucks since I will only be using this gun to mess around with at the range. Any constructive opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

A cheap beater 9mm and only a couple hundred bucks(I'll assume this means $200), only thing that comes to mind is a hi-point.

If you're willing to step it up to the $500 range, you'll actually get something worthwhile that you can beat up(FN, Springfield, Glock, S&W, etc.).

To be entirely honest, if you're on such a tight budget but want a handgun to shoot with readily available and cheap ammo for the range, get a .22lr(and there are a dozen or more to choose from in the $200-$400 range).

What are peoples thoughts on the Kahr CW9? Looks like I can get one for $320.

I just picked up a Bulgarian Makarov 9mmX18 for $299. I've seen them starting at $150.00.

Spend a bit more, get a new G17 or G19.

Then beat the snot out of it changing only the recoil spring every once in a blue moon.

Not really a range gun, small light guns are not fun to shoot a lot.

I don't particularly care for the trigger on the cw9, but that's just my preference. I say go .22 for cheap plinking but if a 9mm is what you want, as said before the P series Rugers are built like tanks. Turners has them on sale once in a while.

The Ruger P95 shoots extremely well for such a low price point. Synthetic lower and brushed stainless slide. Great for plinking, and you don't have to worry about beting it up.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

Where? I'm looking for an old Glock 17 that I can paint and stipple. Everybody is trying to sell it for close to new retail.

+1 on that. My wife chose a p95 over a 9mm glock or XD. I think Turners has sales on them for like 300$ plus tax/dros

Sounds like a used Glock or Sig SP2022 might fit the bill.
