    Stanislaus NF Target Shooting

Anyone willing to share a Stanislaus NF shooting location near Hwy 108 and Long Barn etc?

A Calguns search reveals a spot near Black Oak, but that seems a bit close to population and the directions were difficult to follow looking at google maps.

Google shows some potential side road areas up 108 beyond Pinecrest. Rather than wasting shooting time to scout and find a location, hoping someone would save me the time and share a spot. Thx

Take the forest service road south of Long Barn until you cross the north fork of the Tuolumne, look for any side road or continue on towards Hull Creek and the Clavey. But be aware there's some dangerous in-bred folks to the east of that area, between Long Barn and Pinecrest, "the Hils have Eyes" dangerous. I used to root around that part of the country 45 years ago but haven't camped on the Clavey in decades. Get a Stanislaus Forest Map. PAX

Have heard about violent inbred types up that way.

To avoid the inbreds, sounds better that I continue on up108 passed Pincrest? Was trying to avoid going as far up as Dardanelles and Britemans Flat campgrounds to avoid REI campers, but maybe they are better than finding the Hills Have Eyes types 😖

You can also go east of Tuolumne City towards the Clavey but it gets steep fast, There's a bunch of good spots along the Hull Creek Road. It runs from Sonora to Pinecrest along Dodge Ridge. If you've never been. there are good spots on the road to the Bennett Juniper and Long Valley, but it's up there 8K'. PAX

A Forrest service map is on my list. Looking at Google I see two roads off 108 on the left side when heading east up 108 that have no one around, go a ways, and there are many graded spots. These are Lyons Creek and Lyons Reservoira d these are anfter Mi Wuk an d before Long Barn.
          Any info on these?

Past Pinecrest there are dirt forest roads going up the hill on the south side of 108. Plenty of empty space and some flat areas. 4WD makes it an easy ride.

            Easily seen on Google Earth.

The area around Lyons has a lot of private property near the reservoir that's not clearly marked. PAX

Yes, I saw that after I posted the question when looking at the FS map online. I also think the FS has closed those FS roads for fire this year per their webpage.

We were road huntin one year and came up at Lyons from the northwest. Four rigs, long bed & short bed '70 Power Wagons, a '69 CJ5 and me in my Baja Bug. When we got to the chained log jam, the 4Xs climbed over it, then they picked up my Baja to clear it. We got up to a steep grade on the road, and the other dudes wanted to do a hill climb but it was too steep and muddy for me, so I drove the road to the top. When I got to the top there was a little level spot where a fella had his family camp set up. I immediately jumped out to flag the guys off, but I could hear the four-barrels open up and it was too late. The first rig, short bed Power Wagon, got air and crushed the dudes ice chest as one after another flew up that hill. I think if we hadn't had numerical superiority, there were 8 of us with heat, the camper dude would've shot someone. We all open carried back then. They apologized and gave him $50 bucks. We were lucky, he had small kids with bikes. PAX
