    Factory ammo ooooops.

    A little PSA

With the range set up I use my ammo is always transferred into plastic cases.
This forces me to handle the ammo in a quiet environment with limited external interruptions.
Have run into a few bad rounds.
Thankfully that squib looked off when loaded it into my plastic ammo box.

Bad Primer in .357mag....Squib in 9mm

    Missing Primer 9mm...Missing projectile .22LR

Just because it is factory loaded does not guarantee it will go bang.
Very low % but can happen.
Have not had any ammo failures.....How about other Calgunners ?

I remember thinking during the big COVID caused ammo drought from roughly mid-2020 to maybe sometime last year and thinking with all the factories supposedly cranking out product around the clock with whatever workers they could get a hold of with iffy experience- how many dud or even dangerous factory cartridges made during this era would we be coming across in the near future?

Good catch. That could have been all bad.

Back when Walmart sold ammo, I was buying 9mm Winchester bulk and began running into problems. Deformed empty cases, deformed loaded cases. Loads were inconsistent to the point that there would occasionally be a very loud report or one so light I would need to drop the mag, unload, and check to ensure there was not a squib in the barrel. I moved on to other ammo.

I had a whole collection of bad factory ammo examples of all brands and calibers that I'd come across over my long years of shooting. But after moving from Kalifornia, I have no idea what I did with them. My wife probably threw them away thinking it was junk.

Though few and far between, I’ve had sideways primers, missing primers, and bullets that were seated too far. The most obvious’oops’ I’ve found was an upside down bullet found in a box of Winchester 9mm. It was in a packaged box with all of the bullets facing up but the one was seated upside down and quite noticeable.
