Sounds like a pretty winnable lawsuit to me.

Police never showed? Finished his work day and drove home with it? Something seems a bit fishy to me. not sure how things ar ein Detroit but anywhere here in the Bay Area if you called in a "found a gun laying here" type call you would not still be waiting at the end of the day.
I have a sudden case of "need more info" before judging this one.Comment

I saw a story about a guy in England who was ex military. he found a sawed off shotgun in a black plastic bag on the other side of the fence in his back yard. other side of the fence was just an open field, not another residence. realized what it was and took it straight to the cops and told them the story. he was promptly arrested for possession of a firearm. he was tried and found guilty.

Sounds more like they've wanted to fire the guy for a while but never had an excuse. Guy may have been in a union where "not-doing-your-job" isn't a good enough reason to fire someone (a la teachers unions).
I'm not sticking up for this company, per se, because if this really was the reason he was fired, then that's complete ahole-ish-ness on behalf of the employer.
But in this current economic climate, sometimes you gotta fire someone, and sometimes you gotta find a way to do it that won't bite you back. "Violating company policy" is 95% effective in this regard.WTB .357 Lever Action:

Read it and was going to post it. My search foo was working.
I hope there is more to this story but if the story is accurate it is a bs move and I hope one of the civil rights organizations steps in and helps.Starve the beast, move to a free state.

Don't think he called the Police. Takes it home first. Big fish here but it is on the finder. If he had a radio to call dispatch or a cell to call direct to PD he is toast. Find a gun call the cops. Simple.Police never showed? Finished his work day and drove home with it?

That really sucks getting fired two years before retirement but some of the things just don't add up. You cant tell me the whole crew knew about it, including the foreman, and no one thought it would be a good idea to just call the cops. There just has to be more to the story of him losing his job.Comment
