    lockbox for air travel

we are goring on a trip to Vegas soon, I alwase bring a gun for the times when we drive outside the tourist areas. I cant travel with the bigger safe I usually use because the flight arrives a lot earlier than check in time so I am going to have to leave the baggage with the hotel while we wait so it will probably be ran through a xray. I got a small locking box off amazon just big enough to hold a bodyguard 2.0 and two 12 round mags. to keep everything from rattling around I put magnets under the foam padding to secure the gun and mags to the bottom of the case. then I commandeered one of the wife's laptop bags, the main compartment holds the lockbox and the accessory pocket holds the holster, ammunition, knife, and a mag loader because the bodyguard 2.0's mags require a tool to load the last round. when we land, pull the laptop case out, give the baggage to the hotel to hold, go get some breakfast and find something to do while we wait for the room to be ready. looks like I am carrying a small laptop, pretty happy with the way this project turned out. meets TSA specs for air travel and can be discreetly carried around on a shoulder strap for a few hours.

you could just exit the airport and start carrying if you are legal to do so.

i thought about that but if they x-ray bags, any safe, case or lockbox will be easily identified and prompt them to investigate further. best to remove everything that can be connected to a firearm from the bags before they get ran.

They will not open your lock box inside your suitcase. The lockbox does not need to be a TSA lock. Just make sure you deciair it at the airline desk and fill out the form saying Gun is unloaded and no ammo in the gun.
It is that easy to do. They will not touch your gun. But they may open your suitcase and see the Declacration on your gun box. Thats it.

I'm not worried about TSA, I'm worried about the hotel staff. Ever since mandalay bay, Vegas hotels don't want guests to have guns in their rooms. If they think you may have a gun they will investigate further to find out if you do. Caesars entertainment properties have K9 teams, if they see a lockbox on x-ray they are probably going to have one around when I try to pick up the bags.

You can show them that is legal and show your CCW.

don't have one, I'm covered by LEOSA and they don't care. if they find you with a gun they will either make you leave or have have you leave the gun with security then check it out when you want to carry off hotel property. not really interested in doing that. hopefully I can pay for early check in, if not then i have the discrete carry bag for the gun and gun related accessories.

This is a good illustration of why many people either leave their gun at home, or go somewhere else. Unless you for some reason really, truly, have to be in Vegas, find somewhere else to go. Or simply go and use your skills of avoidance without worrying about some problem that is statistically very unlikely, given the large number of people who go all the time.

statistically you will likely never need a gun, but its still better to have one right? that's why the amount of CCW's skyrocketed when CA was forced to start issuing licenses. its why the firearms industry is focused on releasing theses large capacity micro pistols that are extremely easy/convenient to carry. you will likely never need to pull it and even less likely to have to actually fire it in self defense, but having it on you and ready for the unforeseen is better than having it at home.

Vegas is awesome. plenty of shows, restaurants, museums and things to do at a affordable price.

They are jerks. Do not do business with them. So, to them everyone is bad. Well I say they are BAD.

Mission accomplished. Also, the magnets worked excellent. Absolutely nothing in the case shifted position or was banged around during the bags trip through the airport and in the plane. Going to have to make another one of these travel boxes up for my 9mm.

so mossy you were able to bring to hotel room w/o hassle?

would LEOSA fare better getting it past the xray?

Yes, carried gun and gun related accessories in laptop bag, while eating breakfast waiting for room to be ready. If they ran the bags there was nothing for them to find.

Absolutely not. If they find you with a gun in the bag you need to check it in with security then check it out when you want to carry off property. If you are leaving bag with the bellhop keep the gun on your body and you shouldn't have any problems unless they are running K9 teams. Haven't seen one of those yet.
