    Where to shoot around Merced?

A friend of mine lives down in Merced. He is just getting into shooting. Having lived in Merced, I always thought it to be a generally 2A friendly place (for CA), but now I'm not so sure.

I have ranges within 10 minutes (Yuba City), 40 minutes (Oroville), 45 minutes (Lincoln), and I'm sure others I haven't even thought of or discovered yet.

What opportunities does he have in Merced? There is one handgun range which apparently has poor ventilation, no longer allows shotgun, etc. There also seems to be a private club near Winton, but he can't really afford to be a member, even if he had a chance to join. Is there something like BLM land or some other outdoor range?

If you could either PM me or post the location here, I would appreciate it.

There's a great club in Fresno for USPSA, IDPA, SASS. Another club just outside Mariposa has run and gun the first Sundays and steel challenge type on the second Sundays. Mariposa is VERY new shooter friendly

If you're talking about the Fish & Game range, yeah, they're great out there. Used to know one of the rangemasters. Definitely a good place to go and shoot.

Yes, that's the place. Actually the first and second Sundays, the pistol bays are run by the Motherload Pistol Club.
