Gave a pistol to a police gun buyback. Am I a bad CGer?

The pistol was an old broken starter pistol for track & field events.

Saw an ad for the buyback near me last weekend.

I took it in hoping they would just deal with disposal.

They defined it as a "firearm, non-functional" and gave me a $50 Amazon gift card.

I still feel a little guilty,

(Ok, the title is a bit of clickbait.)

Guess it would depend on how much time and effort was spent on getting it there and how long it took to do it. But $50 is $50 bucks. Personally I probably would have just smacked it with a sludge hammer once and tossed it in the garbage.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

Cost less than 1/2 gallon of gas and ~15 minutes of my time.

I could have smashed it, but going to the buyback was interesting.
No one else was there, hope it was a slow day for them.
The officers were very friendly, seemed like they got a bit of a laugh over a starter pistol, even in California.

I would have been satisfied if they just said they would dispose of it, but I am taking the money.
Maybe I will find some good gun-related items on Amazon.

Copy and agree, I bet you walked away thinking jeez our tax dollars at work. But yeah toss that money back into the economy for some nice gun stuff.

You did good. That mean old starter pistol will never have a chance to hurt anybody ever again.

I have two old worthless pistols. One a Chinese Tokarev that last time I tried jammed often and the other (my first gun ever) a spanish Llama .45 that also jams and is broken down. I bought both these guns when I was a young guy and that's all I could afford, they were cheap.
I would like to get rid of them, but their worthless, so trying to sell through an FFL would be a waste of time. Don't have any friends relatives that would want them. I suppose I could take them down to my local PD to destroy? Any suggestions?

I have two 1890s cheap revolvers that are missing parts and look like they were buried for decades. I'd welcome getting fifty bucks reach for them, but no gun buy backs here, so I'm out of luck.

For anyone looking for a gun buy back, try calling your local police or sheriff station, or look up their websites.

If you’re not in any kind of hurry, you might get a few bucks for waiting.

Burbank is having a buyback on 12/7.

I would definitely get rid of broken, unwanted guns that way when I had no other way to sell them.

I once scored a $100 gift card to Target off of turning in .22cal rusty air rife with a broken trigger somebody just left by a dumpster in a campground.

I hate Target, but used the gift card to buy a hundred bucks worth of socks and under shorts.

                        F-- target!

Too bad Amazon does not sell ammo. They do sell cleaning stuff.

You got $50 for a non functional starter gun.
                            congratulations!!!
if I had a gun that was non functional, I too would consider a fun buyback.

I have a Reck .22 single action revolver that is an absolute pos. A friend gave it to me years ago as a box of parts. I think that it cost him $22 new. I was able to find parts for it and it was still a pos. So I was saving this for a gun buyback until I discovered a use for the cylinder. A few years ago, I was going to take one of my .22's out for a run. I grabbed a brick of .22's that I had since the 90's and found that the lead had swollen due to oxidation and would not feed into the chamber. I was able to use the cylinder from the pos Reck to resize the bullets by pressing the bullets in to the cylinder. After that, any bullet that I resized with that cylinder, chambered just fine.
