What have stores been like post July 1 ?

Curious as to the level of activity at places like Turners, AmmoBros or BassPro.

With the newly enacted sin tax, are people still buying or has that cooled off ?
Anyone press will hear the fat lady sing.

Late but I was in one late Aug and seems like normal activity.

I went to Turner's two weeks ago late Sunday afternoon. I still had to take a number and wait

Judging by Turners relentless ammo sales, I think it’s hurting them. Doesn’t really effect us reloaders.

Personally, I refuse to pay. I'll wait and see what happens...

With you on that. Even then, there is only one new production gun available in CA that I'm truly interested in buying and that's the Ruger SFAR. Turner's has them on sale right now (when they actually have them in stock, which is rare, and often by design.)

But with their $9.00 transaction 'fee' addition (in the small print) over the anti-gun spite-tax of 11%, with an already inflated sales tax nearing another 10%, because California, I'm simply not so motivated that I'm willing to piss away an additional $130.00 over what would have been whatever the cost for that same sale at Riflegear had been just a few months ago. I can wait it out. They'll keep making those for several years, in high numbers, and there will be plenty available out there by way of PPT, or simply continue to have a presence on the market as new longer than this asinine spite-tax will stand muster in the courts.

I fully expect the 11% anti-civil rights '2nd Amendment tyrant's HATE tax' to be overturned by February, if not sooner, and will be immediate with injunction against enforcement even if an en banc is filed, due to what in encroaches on and takes with irreversible costs to consumers, who realize no direct benefit from that spite-tax.

To imagine that a tax on the luxury of tea caused more revolt than this modern tax on a tool which is a fundamental of civil right, is in and of itself... revolting.

Oh, did I mention it's also racist, elitist, and anti-progressive?

Just from the parking lots given that I haven't actually been in a LGS since the end of June (too many, let's say, 'distractions' - gotta fix that), I'd say there was a slow down, initially. Such a perception was bolstered by the staff at the nearby Sportsman's Warehouse all of a sudden standing around rather than dealing with a line.

It "appears" that the parking lots are filling up, again. If the increase in the ammo background check fee goes through, I'd expect another 'surge;' though, here, I'm not sure it will help given that local availability has been spotty, at best, since COVID started. Worse, reloading supplies have also been spotty and that's frustrating. Part of that is the continuing 'shortage' and part of it is the hesitancy of LGS owners to invest 'heavily' on stuff they aren't certain will sell quickly.

Insofar as my own buying, I doubt I'm gonna pay the extortion fee (11% tax) on a Constitutional Right. But, who knows, I might find something I can't live without if waiting isn't a valid option. We all have to make choices in regard to what we put our money toward. I'd just like it if part of that money wasn't now, legally and officially, being put to uses I'd rather it not be.

Not going to pay the 11% which means no new guns until that law is repealed. I will settle for used purchases if I really want something.

I was in the same 'nearby' Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday. One couple was picking up a bolt action deer rifle and scope. Otherwise, the gun counter was pretty much dead, the ammunition cabinets were full, and the reloading section had been whittled down considerably in terms of stock.

I'm hoping to stop by a real 'gun shop' tomorrow if the timing works out.

What has Calguns been like since July 1st?

Just hang a sign over every LGS's store that states:

                    "504 Gavin's Way Time Out"

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

I went to Outdoor Sportsman is Stockton about 3 weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon. The place was pretty quiet, and I did notice that some prices on firearms I was interested in had dropped significantly. I buy all my firearms from a home FFL now and he said if I pay with Venmo, Zelle or cash, the sin tax is waved. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Per my local gun shop sales are very similar august 2024 to august 2019 before the pandemic changed everything. Don’t think the 11% has affected as many people as we think
