    What to do..?

Ok, I'm sure this has probably been brought up before, I apologize for starting a new thread if that is the case. I have a close friend who I would like to teach how to shoot, but I've recently found that she smokes medicinal marijuana. (yes, she has the card, etc.) Are there any laws against putting a gun in her hands? Obviously I'd stipulate that she not be smoking before going to the range, but what other things should I keep in mind? I don't want to break the law and find out the hard way.

"In a memo released last week, the US Department of Justice has notified federal firearms dealers that medical marijuana patients are "addicts" or "unlawful drug users" who cannot legally own weapons or ammunition. A medical marijuana registration card is proof enough to deny a weapons sale, the memo said. That has medical marijuana advocates crying foul, but national gun rights groups -- not so much."

Now, just based on the above article, i think it would fall under the same category as providing a firearm to a restricted person.

Would it be enforced? Doubtful, edit: as long as she's not wearing a 420/Leaf t-shirt, smelling of resin, waving her card around, then how would anyone know she's restricted?

Do i advise it? No, but i'm not a lawyer

Would you be breaking any laws? I think that would be up to the judge if you got caught, since federally:
"Any person who uses or is addicted to marijuana, regardless of whether or not his or her state has passed legislation authorizing marijuana use for medicinal purposes, is an unlawful user of or is addicted to a controlled substance and is prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition,"

Can you take your friend to the range? If you do, i sure as heck wouldn't post about it.

Somehow I distinctly remember replying to this, but the reply doesn't show up. Anyway.. Thank you for digging up that info for me. I am disappointed that I had already told my friend that I would take her, (this was before I knew about the mary jane card) but I'm not willing to risk my hide for some fun. This is why I'm glad I asked before going and doing something I had no idea was illegal.
