    Local Ammo Prices

I was in "Guns, Fishing and Other Stuff" today in Vacaville looking for some .223. I could not believe the prices! This store is normally very expensive anyway, but I did not see a box of Federal .308 for less than $ 45.00!! 7 mm mag was like $60.00. 7MM Weatherby Mag was almost $ 100!

I picked up a box of Fed.Prem Vital Shock 60gr Nosler Partition's and it was $26.00.

I'm glad I bought a lot of surplus 308 when it was cheap. I wish now I had bought GM Match when CDNN had it for $ 13.50 / box about 3 Years ago since Gold Medal match is $ 35.00 /box at Midway.

    Wow, just......wow.

You can thank the decline of the U.S dollar for this.

I was just looking through my "Gun Stuff" file and found a receipt from the CMP from 2004 for 4 cans of Aussie 7.62 @ $ 30.00 each plus $ 15.00 shipping. I've seen guys selling this same stuff for $ 110.00 per can.

Decline of US dollar and increase in demand for raw materials will play havoc with items where economy of scale has already been maximized.

Yes, ammo is expensive nowadays, but I've also posted before about this store in particular, having bad service. Went there with a coworker, we were basically ignored while the employees stood around on the sales floor cussing and talking to each other. Another guy on the phone quoted a very high price to do a PPT. No one asked if we needed any help. We were dressed in slacks and buttoned collared work shirts. I was not impressed and I haven't been back there since.

Makes me sad that prices are going to stay high for some time
