Just wondering, are those committing such "smash and grabs" of firearms ever caught and if so, are they brought to justice? I see many of these crimes published in the news, but few, if any, follow-ups on the criminals being apprehended. If very few are actually arrested or prosecuted, the risk/reward ratio of such a crime is quite low.
