You know we have some calguners who seem to think they know whats special and not so special when it comes to the Glock 19 Gen3, Can anyone tell me whats so special and not so special about the Glock 19 Gen3. I am a Big Glock fan. I also understand some LEO's carry it off duty. Your imput please. Thanks

I think the glock 19 is an amazing pistol and want one very bad, just can't bring myself to buy a foreign made firearm. I have a p220 and a colt 1911 xse that are my fav semi autos but can't help coveting my father's box stock 19. Trigger pull and specifically the reset is awesome. I have large hands yet somehow it's very comfortable to grip and shoot. 15 potent rounds in an accurate compact comfortable pistol. If I had to have just one pistol, it would likely be the glock 19.

It isnt special, its a Glock...

You can feed it any ammo, abuse it (with in reason, lets say carry it everyday, leave it the holster for weeks at a time, ignore it etc... nothing more than you would expect really, but with some guns, you never know...) Provided that you like the grip angle, its as accurate as a laser beam. Some people dont like the trigger/safety setup, but I am confident that I could throw mine like a tommahawk and it wouldnt go off unless the trigger was pulled... And when you do pull the trigger it will go off everytime.

Occasionaly you hear about one blowing up (although its been a year or so since I heard a good Glock Kaboom story, the new online trend is that the Gen 4's dont work... I cant speak to that, I dont own one) but given the proportion of Glocks out there, and the fact that all manufacturers make a bad gun occasionaly, plus there is no accounting for what people do to these things, its not bad odds for the reliabilty you get. In my mind anyway.

Its like an old Toyota 22r, so remarkable in its utility, it becomes unremarkable. It just works.

But of course not for everyone....

Ha ha, some people liken it to holding a 2x4 or a brick, but I like that. I have large palms and the grip swell is perfect. It feels substantial. Like a 2x4 or a brick....

Its actually a little to big for me to carry everyday. I wish they would make a single stack.

Unless you get someone that just hates Glocks. Disregarding caliber and personal preference, you will be hard pressed to find anyone that will objectively tell you that its not at the very least adequate.

My uncle had one of the first glocks waaaay back in the day, imagine it had to be a first gen 17. It felt like holding a cobby 2x4 to me and I never gave glock a chance until my father picked up a 19 a couple years ago. The performance of this gun cannot be ignored. I've spent time with a buddies S&W/Walther sw99 in 45acp and a 9mm sigma, terrible poly pistols do exist...

Guns, like cars, can be intensely personal.

Or, they can be utilitarian.

Glocks are like reliable, easy and cheap to maintain pickups that simply take all the abuse you can throw at them and keep doing their job.

Some people value such reliability and durability, even if you sacrifice some customization, ergonomics, performance, bragging rights, etc.

An $80k+ sports car is a nicer experience to drive, but maintenance is higher, they tend to be less reliable, a good owner will document EVERYTHING about it's maintenance as well as driving history if it's a Ferrari or Lambo; for some people this isn't what they want to deal with.

A Glock has specific characteristics. A high end 1911 has specific characteristics.

The people that love the G19 like the particular characteristics the gun has to offer as stated below.

Those are the priorities of those shooters, so the G19 is their gun of choice.

Given how long Glock has been producing the G17 & G19, they are in Gen3, some of the most reliable semi-autos currently in production.

Which is not to say they are "better" than another make/model, just consistent in what they offer.

The G17 fits my hand better, and I shoot it faster and more accurately... but the G19 conceals easier. I'd rather practice consistently with a compact all the time than switch back and forth between a duty sized weapon and a compact.

I value consistency more than specific characteristics in other areas that might provide a slight edge otherwise.

(you also don't have to run/pay for 2 sets of sights, multiple holsters- I don't believe in belt slides anymore)

Better to explain the quality of the G19 like voiceofreason did rahter then criticize like some j------ who just do not like the G19. If one asks a question any guy with any BRAINS would try to explain the pros and cons if any. Thank you voiceofreason for your detailed info.

You do realize the Sig P220 was designed by the Swiss and some parts are manufactured in Germany, right?
