While waiting the 10 days for your gun to come out of jail that maybe the FFL may take it to the range and have some fun??

There have been stories about this here and there as TKM pointed out, but they're a rarity(and part of those are people failing to understand that guns get test fired by manufacturers without being cleaned spotless).
Plus, unless you've got some rarity of a gun waiting for 10 days, there isn't even much appeal for anyone to consider it. I mean think about it. Why would an FFL bother with a Glock? Or a Mossberg shotgun? Maybe something like a really high end 1911 someone might want to fondle it a bit. But in general, it's not something to worry about considering the potential ****storm if something went wrong while the FFL was playing with it at the range.Comment

Earlier this year I bought a GSG 1911/22. The dealer didn't have one so he ordered it for me.
He got it in, I did the DROS and sometime in the 10 day wait I was in the store and noticed a GSG 1911/22 in the display case. I didn't really think much of it except that he probably ordered a couple when he ordered mine.
When I came in to pick up my gun, the one in the case was gone. After leaving I got to wondering if he put my gun in the case as a display model during the 10 day wait.

I don't think this happens as much anymore, due to less gun stores and ATF has bumped up their audit asn checks. However, about 20 years ago there seemed to be many more stories/reports of this happening. People would buy a gun, inspect it, and upon pickup crazy crap like a mag in the box being left loaded, or the gun having signs of being fired, etc.
It happened to me a couple of times, where the gun had a lot more fouling than when I bought it, tycpially with PPT/consignment/used guns that were unique or uncommon.
Several years ago, I bought a High Standard Derrigner in .357MAG on consignment - with a flip open breech, no trigger guard, etc. Unique, not very common now days. I looked it up and down, opened the action, checked it every way to Sunday. It was clean, like new. Upon pick-up, it was powedered with residue but the best part; it had two spent casings in the chamber.
No question it was shot by a store employee during the 10-Day weight. I complained about the obvious signs of use, they apologized but could not determine who in the store did it - the store had a total of 4 employees!
Though I didn't ask for any special consideration, the owner gave me a couple of boxes of .357MAG on my way out. I had done a lot of business there, and continued to do business there.-----------------------------------------------

this kinda thing happens all the time in the class 3 world, but then again in the class 3 world most of the guns are used (WELL USED) and the paperwork takes 4-6 months rather than just 10 days.
does not happen in the free states because there you can cash and carry.Comment

I would be leary at a store that is also a range like Target Masters or Reed's. (not saying they would, but they do have a range in the store.)
Best bet, take that $6 lock that you get with a new gun and lock it up and take the key with you for 10 days. No way to play with your gun then.
Worst might be them putting back in the case for 9 days and people fondling it before they take it back out when you go pick it up.
For me I'm down to 2 FFLs. First one is great and works from home. The other is a local store that has treated me well. I don't go beyond those 2.Originally posted by Citadelgrad87It's one thing to question everything . . . There was a story here about some guy with a big cal revolver (thinking 500sw) that he dros'd in perfect condition and when he picked it up it had marks all over the cylinder from being whipped shut over and over.
No idea if its true or not but I don't doubt that it could happen.Comment
