I had to qualify with .40sw because that was my department caliber standard, and way back in the day, as a reserve, if I didn't want to carry a revolver I had to fund my own Glock.
My .40sw have served me well, but no question compared to 9mm, .40 has a bit more snap and can be a bit of a handful if your grip and stance fundamentals are not on par.
For Everyday carry, I prefer my Sig P365 in 9mm, but my Glock27 is still on my permit!
Without the department requirement in my past, if I had to buy new today, I would pass on .40sw in my safe.

I imagine the .30 Super Carry will go the same way, but die off much sooner.

I personally like 40 S&W. My buddy's got an SD40 It's not dramatically more difficult for me to shoot well compared to my own 9mm pistol that I have much more trigger time with. And it is more powerful than 9mm and larger bullet.

I would not encourage a brand new gun owner to start out with 40 SW as I think it's best for a newbie to go with 9mm as it is most widely supported. I would absolutely pick up a well-priced 40 SW pistol for myself if I come across one. Turner's had the PX4 40SW for $399 for father's day and I was sorely tempted for sure.

I like the caliber. Also, it's always on the shelves during a shortage or panic. I see no reason to drop it.

You can say the same about .45 as well. Yet, it's a great HD caliber. JHP opens up to an inch

To me the caliber just seems pointless.
Prob, depends on the gun. P226 in .40 is a blast to shoot

I dumped my 45 ACP guns for 40 SW guns.

Many times it comes down to what you are used to. My first pistol ever was a Ruger P97DC. I still have it and it still shoots great. It is a full size gun that holds 7 or 8+1. The Taurus Millennium PT140 came out and it was very compact, 10+1 and easy to shoot well. I got used to it and liked it but after the class action lawsuit it just sits in the case. Due to retiring the Taurus my next was a P2000sk. Compact, 9+1, well built and is the most reliable functioning gun I own. Did a few pistol courses with it and it performed without issue. I have some in 9mm, some in .40 and some in .45 and one in 5.7x28. They each have their virtues. Shoot everything you can and buy what you like.

The short and week was in comparison to its parent, the 10mm auto.

I just picked up a brand new G23 last week. Talon Pro Grips on order. Ameriglo Hackathorn Night Sights, TLR-7A, and Vickers Grip Plug already installed.
My pistols are chambered in 9mm, .40SW, .45ACP, and .22LR
I'll be switching all my .40 base plates to FDE Tango Down Vickers plates so I can easily identify Glock 9mm vs .40SW mags.
Switching to FDE on the Streamlights on the G22/23 vs black on the G17/19 to help differentiate at a glance between the two calibers.
G22 is my favorite gun to shoot, and I shoot it well. I have a few off-roster pieces but the G22 is my HD and G19 for CCW. I'll add the G23 on the next renewal.

For those complaining about how snappy the .40 is, my wife and my daughter say it's not a problem to shoot.
Maybe some of you should stop skipping "arm / shoulders day" at the gym. ?

The problems started when the diversity hires can't qualify with it, and went back to 9mm. The market got flooded with cheap PD trade in .40's.
