Long gun and Safe Questions

Good evening Calguns. Im considering on purchasing a shotgun, is a safe necessary to buy one? Or is a cable lock/trigger lock sufficient enough when buying/picking up the shotgun from the store? There are no children or felons in the house.

Some FFLs will ask you the name and model of your home safe.
You may need to file and sign an legal affidavit to that fact. You may be given a pad lock to lock the trigger or action to take possession. They may not release the firearm if you don't complete and sign the affidavit. There are 3 gun safes you can buy on Amazon.

In 2024, a cable lock or trigger lock is sufficient. Note there is no law requiring that one uses such a thing.

Just my opinion. A safe should be bought before buying a gun.
Having a safe doesn't mean you have to lock up your guns when you are at home.
?home. I keep a ccw pistol with me when I'm at home even if it's not on me. The only time it's put in the safe is when I go to a no gun zone and my wife is not home.
If she's home I put it in her office.
We have no children in our house.
A safe is to protect your community if your house is ever broken to.

Are you asking if state, county and city governments are bound to follow supreme court precedent?
Because the answer is no.
They can pass any law they want.
It's up to the citizens to have the courts overturn the law based on supreme court precedent.

I ordered a long gun safe but it wont arrive in time before DROS.

All that you need to complete the safe affidavit is the manufacturer and model number of the safe.
You should be able to obtain that from your recent order if it has not arrived yet.
The moment you paid for it, you own it.
The actual transit of the safe from the seller to your home is inconsequential.

The safe affidavit asks you to supply information about the safe or lockbox that you own.
It's right in the name of the affidavit:

The affidavit does not require the safe or lockbox to even be at your residence.
You can "possess" it wherever you choose, such as the delivery truck if you so choose.
