Is this a valid home defense option?

Walther P99 and surplus IIIA folding kevlar shield

Full body protection(-hand) AND the high ground at a chokepoint, what's not to love? You could even switch to 5.7 with spicy rounds and shoot through your own cover while stopping the puny 9mm and .40 of the average punk

Looks cool enough for home defense to me. Nice job, buddy.

            Sure.

But no need to be right at the top of the stairs. If you were to move back into the doorway behind you, the door frame would provide additional cover and you could brace yourself with the hand / arm holding the shield against the door frame (a much more steady shooting platform especially one handed. Plus you're not in the center of the top landing where a attacker would expect you to be.

Great! But you don't need to hold it if you can create a sturdy stand. That would free up your left hand to reload. Maybe use a carbine and not a handgun. Great idea!

Interesting. I live in a 2-story. I have a large folding metal stepstool/ladder that fits behind my office door and weighs about 20lbs. The Captain America vibranium thing looks like a viable alternative.

Handguns are horrable man stoppers. They only reason to chose one over a long gun is portability. In a home, thats usually not a problem. Use a shotgun or AR.

Could be useful too if you needed to go get the kids and move them to a safe place. I wouldn't say "no" to one.

Just be aware that your feet and ankles have a real chance of taking hits through the thin stair wood. If that happens you will go down.

How about using your 2 hands to hold a rifle and waiting on either side of the stairs , and putting the shield on a sturdy stand in front of you

A firing port in the shield, along with a carbine, say 223???
