I'm going to buy a .22 pistol for target shooting. What are some of the better ones.
    Thank you.

Ruger mk and S&W m41 use to be the chet, you can also look into the volquartsen lineup / Kidd firearms.

Spend a little bit more and get a Mark IV. You'll be glad you did.

I've been pretty impressed with the Buckmark Contour I picked up a while back. If I do my part, it will shoot a 5 round group at 10 yards I can cover with a dime. The hard part is doing my part, as age, and old injuries take their toll.

I'm a Ruger guy for .22 pistols but Buckmarks work plenty well. Also, .22lr revolvers can sometimes be picked up cheap and are great plinkers. Whatever you can find used or on sale that suits your fancy. For target shooting all depends on how accurate you want to go, pretty wide range with .22s.

My target gun is a S&W 41. I added a Clark barrel with built-in rail to mount a red dot (didn't want to drill/tap a vintage barrel). Really nice pistol. That said, with open sights, my circa 90's slabside Buckmark I got for $150 from Traders (you should recall them from Oaktown/San Leandro) will give it a run for it's money.

Or you can go with something less conventional (Olympic style) like a Pardinii, Benelli MP, etc.

Shot a guy's high standard at the range many years ago. It was really really nice. Effortless shooting. If I ever find one for a good price I'll get it.

High Standards come in numerous flavors. From "military" through target. TMK parts can be an issue.

Taking a slightly different track, take a look at the New Model Ruger Single Six Convertible. Yes, it's SA, but that's part of the fun. They come with adjustable rear sight, and the trigger is excellent. For target shooting, I'd go with one of longer barrel offerings. Additionally, you get the .22 WMR cylinder for even more fun. I bought my stainless, 6-1/2" barrel gun for a tad over $700 BNIB. Mine is a tack driver when I do my part.

There is also the old 3-screw model which is also a great shooter.

Both come up for sale used, so there is that option.

The grip panels are aftermarket. I bought them through the Ruger Store.

Smith & Wesson Model 41. You will never regret buying this handgun and it will keep its resale value.
