    disappointed with Ruger's quality control

I go pick up the LCP max I bought in a few days. I wanted a micro gun to carry during those times when I wanted to have a gun with me, but don't want to carry my larger heavier P2000SK. just something I can throw in a pocket holster and go out with. I bought a twin pack of 12 round mags that was delivered today, unfortunately both of the brand new magazines are damaged. the metal appears to be cracked and splitting apart down the back of each mag. I don't think Ruger deals with LEO exemptions in restricted states so hopefully the mag shack will exchange them for another pack because there is no way I would feel comfortable carrying a mag that was splitting in half. Great quality control Ruger, not making me regret buying one of your pistols at all!

Looks more like a remnant of the seem where the magazine was welded than a crack. I don't think it would affect the function of the mag or ever break.

so I completely disassembled the mag to check that out and found the issue, the areas that are splitting are not welded together. on both ends there is a un-welded section and that's what I am seeing/ feeling when I run my fingernail over the visible line.

Aren't these particular Rugers made in eastern Europe?

This kind of thing has been known to happen with CZ magazines, too. Aks me how I know.

hoping I can get them replaced through the place I bought them from. they are restricted items in CA, even though I can legally have them shipped to me, Ruger does not ship to CA.

They aren't welded to end of the seam to prevent the metal from burning through at the end of the weld, which would leave a large divot in the metal.

Fjold is onto something here. I had melted my share of metal. I doubt those would be a functioning problem at all.

Probably right, but I sent them back for a replacement. Will be interested to see what they look like.

This makes sense. Looks that way by design. I wouldn't call that defected. I'm sure it's not detrimental to function.

The replacements will likely be the same because this is a result of the manufacturing method.
These are likely laser welded in a fixture so every one of them will have the weld held short of the end of the seam so that the two sides of the metal do not ball up at the end.

My daughter has a LCP2 for pocket carry, in .22LR. I examined four of the magazines, they all have something similar. She has run about 500 rounds through it with excellent reliability. It looks to me like a normal part of the manufacturer process, as others have said. I would not be at all concerned.

Can anyone with LCP mags look at theirs and check if they have the same? Or if theirs are completely welded.

308 Magpul AR mags tend to crack at the same spot after a couple of years. I've sent a bunch of them back, but fortunately they do a free no questions asked replacement for them.
