    ar 15 rifles

so, I have been looking into buying some rifles now and saw a bad *** ar15 at fowler's. I been looking online and need some guidence from you guys please. I want one for long distance shooting and a close combat weapon. I was looking at the les baer .308s and decided that that is what I want for the distance shooter. So, I now have to fill in the gap of close combat weapon. What is the most popular caliber that is verstile and who sells a quality rifle like the les baer. I never shot one before but I know they have a great reputation.

What do you consider long distance? Don't need a .308 if you're max shooting distance is less than 500 yards. Also .308 is a terrible CQB weapon. Too heavy and too powerful.

Sorry, I didnt make it clear IPSICK. I want a long distance AR15 for 500+ yards and for that I already chose the Les Baer in .308. My new question was, where can I find a CQB or tacticool AR15 custom built to high standards such as the Les Baer. Mr. Roush stage II answered my question with companies I may try and the calibers. I am going to go with the 5.56 nato round for the CQB AR.

All the companies listed above put out good solid working rifles, there are many more companies to list, but honestly it just depends how much you want to spend.

There is also another option, I don't know where you live, but here in So Cal I can contact Parallax Tactical and order a rifle to my specs. I wanted a very specific AR... I was having trouble finding it, so I assembled my lower and had Parallax put together my upper. I got exactly what I wanted and I saved some $$$ vs buying a complete rifle and then modifying the bits and pieces.

I'm sure there is an EBR store near you that could help you out.

If you're on a budget, you can do what I just did.... buy it in separate parts and assemble it. I went to a gun show and got a stag upper with a free-floating barrel and a quadrail system for $400. I got my del-ton lower for $160 (registration fee included). parts kit $75. butt-stock $40.

The only downside to this is it can take a while.. It seems like lowers have been in back-order for the last month and a half.. and good priced uppers seem to be on back order to unless you go to a gun show.
