    Who does this?

I was on facebook, and the other week a friend I know posted pictures of all his guns, since he was cleaning them with his roommate.

Yet some of the people on his friends list I know he doesn't know them at all, as he adds random people everyday. He also checks into places, and I know he has done it with his own house.

So now all these random people know where he lives. So if they wanted they just have to wait till he isn't home and break in and steal the guns.

And it wasn't just him. I have notice more and more people who are on my friends list who are now "bragging" about what they own.

Growing up I learned from my dad and grandpa not to tell anyone about what I/we owned.

To me it just seems like a good way to get your house broken into and your guns stolen. Atleast I know one friend who invested in a safe. Although he didn't bolt it to the ground or wall.

I also know one guy who keeps everything behind his truck seat, and yet his back window on the truck can't lock. So anyone who takes that truck, and if they go through it will find a couple rifles.

Who does this, and why? Do any other facebook users notice this?

It is this whole stupid disease where people are compelled to tell, post, show everything in their lives so they feel accepted or some other crap.... and 1 day someone will probably steal his stuff and then he will cry..

I personally try to be as stealth as possible online...I may come and stir the pot here, post comments, etc but I never 'check in' I never 'tweet' i never put any of my stuff in a public place... i like my privacy....and my so called safety....not to mention nosy work or job people wanting to know if you 'badmouth online'..

Also your friend may be let go at work because he is a gun owning maniac that may come and attack his coworkers....sarcastic tone..

Not too far off of what other people have done on this site.
I've seen some very cool stuff on this forum but you're telling everyone else in the world what can be found in your home.

Some people here complain constantly (and sometimes very eloquently) about their right to privacy being infringed upon but have willingly put up a lot of personal info on this site - more than what they so vehemently argue against.

Somehow the need to brag disables the need for self preservation.

Checking in on ANY social network is just stupid and leaves you open for all kinds of bad stuff to happen.

        Robbery being one of them.

        You asked "Who does this"?

The answer is anyone who has never been robbed blind.

The problem isn't necessarily people posting pictures of the things they own online... rather it's people these days being incredibly dumb about how they go about posting things online. I could post a picture of a gun I own on this forum, but without a hell of a lot of digging you'll never know who I actually am, or where it may actually be. Now if I were posting those pictures on a facebook page and checking in to every location I visit along with a list of people who I associate with, cars, possibly the address of my home, etc. that's when people tend to cause problems for themselves.

For years now stories have been in the news almost daily over idiots getting themselves into trouble by posting crap on facebook/myspace/whatever. But instead of people noticing this, it's like "Generation dumb****" just continues ramping up the stupid and in a lot of instances even after getting burned by their own dumb behavior, continue their activities and get burned again. 15 years ago I remember discussing news stories with my friends about idiot criminals videotaping themselves doing something illegal and then the tape getting found, now they just post it online from their phone within minutes.

Now obviously the friend of yours wasn't doing anything illegal, but apparently he's too stupid to realize how easily accessible the info is that he's posting online. Maybe you should have a chat with him in person about how dumb his behavior is before it bites him in the ***?

Of course why people continue to do it... I have no idea.

There is a reason why Facebook is selling for more than 100X it's worth. It makes people do stupid stuff.

            For instance:

Here's a pic of my kid.
Here's where my kid goes to school.
            This is my child's name.
Here's a pic of my kid playing @ the beach.
Here's a pic of our dog and it only ways 10 pounds.
Our house is pink, but I want to paint it brown.
Such and such housing authority says we need to mow our lawn, what do you think?(pic)
Here's a pic of our backyard. Do you like our new French doors?

I keep warning my family and they are starting to understand. I started a page awhile ago under an alias and they keep your info forever. As in, delete your account and you can still access it 3 years later.

this is why i started taking down some pics that involve guns on my fb page, even though i know it is still stored on FB's server, at least it would take someone with slightly above average knowledge of computers to access them.

Thats just plain stupid, I have a few I know that do the same. I to also wonder what are they thinking. Either way they are just bringing it upon themselves.

blah blah...facebook is just one way...if people really wanted your crap they'll come and get it

my house got broken into before the facebook "check-in" thing even got started...needless to say the people that will break in your property are people that arent even on facebook or any type of social media

there are also ways of changing your profile so only certain people can see what u are doing anyway

dont get mad, it was like this in the past when the young kids started listening and playing rock n roll...its all a part of growth and advancement

Yep, My guns are posted on FB and on Calguns they've been on FB for years, not been robbed yet. My real names probably plastered all over the internet and yet not robbed. I would worry less about the internet and worry more about shady friends. I don't have any shady friends on my FB. Most of the people on my FB is family anyway and they own guns themselves.

Through 15+ years of using the internet I've had internet tough guys threaten to find me and beat me up and they never did.

I know people say all it takes is a friend to tell a friend that tells a friend but the friends I have on FB are friends that's moved away I only have 1 friend that lives close now and hes like a brother and I know he wouldn't rat me out like that. He's also a gun owner.

I have posted my guns on facebook and here. On facebook, only my friends and family can see it them. I have never posted my address(other than city) and all pics were posted with a camera without GPS(or GPS turned off on iphone). Even when I take pics of my car in my yard, there is nothing to give its location away. I don't see a problem with people posting stuff like that on-line as long as they are careful.
