    Sporterizing an SKS

I'm building a sporter out of a Yugo (ATI stock, removing bayo, cutting the barrel down, removing muzzle break) and doing the 922(r) thing.

I'll be using the original magazine. I'll replace the gas piston, operating rod and trigger group parts to make it 922(r) compliant. So my question is who sells quality American made trigger group parts?

Sheesh. That might be a better question for specialists with SKS's, like the guys at SKSboards.com. Check there for in depth stuff. I don't know anyone that might know THAT much about SKS's ....

i used to have an sks in an ati stock. what a POS.

ATI stocks are the crappiest stocks. Use them only if you cant use anything else. the wood stock is actually quite good. I have a tapco t6 that im planning to try out myself, but never ATI again.

I've got one with the ATI stock as well, and i'm not a huge fan of it.

Yes it gets the job done and looks evil and black, but compared to the choate stock that I have on another one of my sks's... well the choate is easily the better stock.

If you're gonna stick with the original mag, just look around for a Norinco para SKS. But if you have a bunch of duckbill mags from before the ban then go ahead and sporterize a Yugo. Let us know what you find out as I might do the same, some day.
