    Buying Used Guns?

So, how does it work buying used guns exactly?

Do you still have to wait 10 days? Say one person in north CA is buying a gun from someone in south CA, and they meet in the middle at a gun store, (FTF?) to do the sale. Does the gun stay at the store for 10 days? Then you drive back and get it?

Yep, for a PPT. Pretty much exactly like that.

Yes 10 day wait, yes to staying at the shop that you do the PPT at. But the guy in so cal can take it to his FFL, do some paperwork, and than the FFL will ship the gun to your local FFL, and you walk in and do the paperwork.

Yes exactly. Even if he ships it to your FFL you still have an 10 day waiting period.

Problem is most private sellers won't ship. I have found alot of nice things for sale in OC, but I am not going to meet them half way only to have to drive back again in 11 days. With the gas money I lost, I could have bought the same gun, new, from a local dealer and helped my local economy.

Handguns on the approved list can be shipped from one FFL to a CA FFL. Unapproved handguns can be shipped to a CA FFL but the buyer must be a LEO or the handgun must have been been converted to a SSE (or will be converted by the receiving FFL prior to DROS).

Non AW long guns can be shipped to CA FFLs. The cost for a PPT is $35 but an FFL can charge whatever they want to receive an FFL to FFL transfer. The 10 day wait is standard.

Thought there was an additional 30 days for the gun itself to clear?

                keep in mind
                1. only the buyer returns
                2. you don't use up your 1 pistol per month (only new sales)
                3. If you present a cable lock then you don't have to buy one
                4. there is no tax
                5. you pay the seller and $35

                  Depends on the FFL.

All this is well covered in the wiki btw.
