    background checks

I am 25 years old and was recently denied for a handgun because of my juvenile record. I didn't know that they looked into juvenile records and I thought it was suppose to be sealed when you turn 18.

What is weird is that I got approved for an Rock River AR15 about a year ago. No arrests since then or anything.

My question is why did I get approved for a riffle and not a gun? Different laws? And how to seal juvenile records.

    Thanks,

    David

As far as your juvenile record (or adult record), it will never be sealed from DOJ, military, or feds. Even if expunged it never disappears completely. They will always be able to see it.
Wut? Where does anything say this?

If you can pass NICS check for a rifle, you can pass one for a HG. IIRC the only extra things you need for handgun are HSC and a second form of ID

Meaning that the DOJ probably messed up on OP's check.

OP, call the DOJ and see whats up

I called the bureau of firearms and they told me it was for 2nd degree commercial burglary I did when I was 16. I asked why I was approved for an AR15 and she said the files may have not been processed yet. It makes no sense that it would take 9 years to file a juvenile record. I am stumped!

Either way if I remember correctly your right to own a firearm is restored 15 years after your juvenile conviction or when you turn 27. Double check that but its around that time period. Unless you were convicted of a serious felony with bodily harm IE; Murder, attempted murder etc.

From my lady having to battle this:
            1. Your 2a rights are restored at 30 years of age IF you committed a crime that restricts 2A.
            2. You have to seal your juvenile record YOURSELF and it costs $120. After is has been sealed, it will be destroyed automatically after 5 years and will no longer be seen by NO ONE.
            3. Once YOUR 2A have been restored...ENJOY!
            Gun control is NOT missing.

No comment. From someone that has always valued his firearms rights even when young.

Can juveniles be charged with a felony?

Moral of the story? We all make mistakes, just hope it doesn't come back to haunt us.

Yes, they can be charged with felonies. Juveniles can be tried as adults and be punished like them also. If you got a felony, have it reduced and then sealed. Its $120 and must be done by mail. Get ALL of your conviction case numbers and dates and submit them. Not sure if they count against you even after being sealed but 5 years after being sealed it will be like nothing happened at all.

My biggest question now... is that how was I approved for the AR15 lower if I am not allowed to own.

What am I suppose to do with the riffle? Do I just keep my mouth shut til im 30? Do I transfer it?

Honestly, it got transferred to you legally, and hopefully you saved the receipt. if not, go to the FFL and see if they still have a record of the transaction. it can happen...
