The Gen 2 is what it is. If you want a weapon mounted light, get a Gen 3 or newer. Otherwise use one of the many hand held methods and a hand held light like the rest of us.
i agree with you about the tape, no way will it be strong enough. but my feeling towards the gen 2 differs. i am using the CAA rail adapter on my gen 2 23, and it is STRONG! there is zero movement, and it seemed to me to be the only viable option for running a light/laser. i am quite impressed with the quality. just wanted to throw it out there for anyone wanting a light/laser on their gen 1 or 2.

there was a bit of excess rail sticking out the front because the rail is made to fit full size and compacts, but i just did a bit of trimming, and polishing.

Sorry to have thread jacked you, I was just throwing another option out there instead of the clamp adapters and it took a life of it's own. I carry a 220 lumen rated light in my pocket if ever I need it, it's a some Chinese knock off brand but gets the job done. Will it last I have no idea.

You can't go wrong with Surefire for sure.

A flashlight only thread may have kept me from even thinking about the rail adapter at all on my Gen 2.

The adapter on my 22 is a freakin rock!! Think I'm going to attempt to trim and polish mine after seeing how good yours looks.

I use both a Surefire E2D LED defender and a 6PX pro. They are EDC so I always have one or the other on me.

        Good luck.

I've seen the clamp on mounts, CAA and otherwise. Have used something similar on a 1911 made by surefire. Was great as a night stand gun, but interfered with carry in a kydex holster. Guess it all depends on how you use your gun. I am sure there are plenty of nylon holsters that would work great. Those just have never been my cup of tea.

As for the OP, sorry brother I was responding to a post way down the line, not you. Read 3m tape being used to hold on a rail and my inner scooby do made the scooby questioning sound. Can't imagine that going well under recoil and during holster carry.

No shortage of great lights on the market. I've been well served by SureFire. I have the old school G3, and 6P as well as two E2D lights. I have the LED upgrades in the G3 and 6P, but use the standard bulb in the E2D. I tried the LED version, but it had too many bells and whistles to be useful. It had two brightness features and you never knew when you pushed the button what you would get. After trying it for about a month I said Eff this and got the standard bulb version and was very happy with it. Only 1 brightness setting made sure I always knew what the results would be when I pushed the button. Not bashing people who find the E2D LED useful, I just didn't is all. I wanted it to be more simple and straigh forward.

I recommend avoiding all the fancy strobe light settings and other crap. You want a push button on and off tail cap, and 1 bright consistant setting without any ghosting in light from a bulb (which has always been the main selling point of a surefire light). Other brands light Insight, and Streamlight seem to have caught up with Surefire, especially when it comes to their LED lights. But a basic Surefire G3 LED is both affordable and effective and will last a life time. Mine is a good 10+ years old, as is my 6P.

i know right! they make these things solid. yeah i just took a hacksaw to trim off the end, then i sanded it to an angle and gave the edges a bit of a chamfer. i'm debating on whether i should leave it polished or black it out somehow. here is a front view...

Well it wasn't clear you didn't want a rail deal. I say streamlight polytac or a surefire.

Streamlight makes some nice handheld LED lights both AA and CR123.

I like Surefire but can't stomach their prices on most items. Streamlight has been excellent stuff and customer service is great.

Check out Fenix. They make some very interesting, very bright, and very economical lights. I have several.

One thing you might consider is how you intend to hold the light and activate it. Some flashlights will have both a side and tailcap switch but most have one or the other. I have a Pelican LAPD flashlight that has both and appreciate that feature very much.

wow...really?! first of all if you have no interest in a weapon mounted flashlight, why is the title of your thread pistol lights + gen2 23? if you wanted flashlight info only, why not post it in the optics section, or better yet, i'm sure there has to be a streamlight forum out there somewhere to get info from. using caps and especially a link like that will get you nowhere...banned, maybe.

Maybe round it a bit more and black it out. Give it that factory made look
