    Snow shooting in SoCal

Some friends and I headed up to the mountains for some legal shooting in the hills. It was partly cloudy and in the high 40s when we left home but when we got to 4,000 ft we encountered heavy winds, snow squalls and dropping temps. We drove into the shooting area as far as we could, the Jeep making it further than the Toyota (yay) so we stopped when the pickup couldn't go any further. It was foggy, snowing and blowing hard, perfect shooting weather! My camera froze up after just a few shots were taken so this is all there is to document it. I was shooting my Mini 14 with Wolf steel case and Olympic brand M855 which I have read is the junkiest 5.56mm on the planet. Both worked just fine for me. I also shot the 1919A4 which also worked perfectly with Tula ball. When finished we policed up our brass, targets, links, and headed on out. Just at that moment the sun came out and the temperature climbed 5 degrees, it stopped snowing and it was great. Too bad we were out of ammo!

Placing the targets. The range was an estimated 75 yards

The 1919 ready to shoot. I kept a blue tarp over it when not shooting it.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

            That's dedication right there!

Literally! The rest of the party didn't want to go once they saw the snow but I convinced them into going....it was an experience for them. I'm used to it, this was a normal winter shooting day for me when I lived in PA and the midwest.

Here's the sad thing: as we were digging down to get our brass out of the snow we kept uncovering trash left by previous users. It will all be there when the snow melts. When we go in the non snowy days we usually take about 4 large trash bags of junk out left from other shooters. The FS guys who stop to check on us say that they are working to get the area closed due to the volume of trash left behind. Shooters are their own worst enemy for getting areas closed due to trash. It's a shame.
