I've used my .223 boresnake on my Ruger MkIII a few times (<10) without any problems.
I can usually use it without even field stripping it but it can get tricky depending on which pistol you may be using specifically.

K, thanks guys. I just picked up my 10/22 and I'm picking my SR22 as well next week. Buying all the needed, or not needed, accessories for it. Figured i'd use one boresnake for both of them. Those things are handy, but so dang expansive.

Tell me about it. I've already got one for .30, but I still need a .22 and a 7mm boresnake...

I tried the .22/.223 boresnake on my new 10 22 when I went to the range last week and that thing was so tight I stopped and pulled it back out before getting it stuck. The brushes can't be good for the bore especially if you do it often. I plan to go patch only with an Otis cable from now
On with my 1022 and may hit it with a brush after thousands of rounds.

Setting off explosions and sending hunks of metal down it at supersonic speeds can't be good either.

Brass / copper is softer then steel, therefor the brush can't hurt the barrel.

True true...i guess I just dont see a need to drag a brush through it often especially because the more experienced guys say these things shoot better a bit dirty.

Well, I shoot straight lead bullets through my .45 for the most part and the Boresnake gets the job done, it drags the lead out and leaves it clean, without damaging the bore.

You might wanna drag it through the bore once more, the cloth and the brush won't hurt the barre(just like the person above as mentioned)l, you might just have a lead build up.

I use my bore snake on all my .22's, including pistol and rifle. If worried about it being tight use it on a .223 caliber weapon first and then they tend to squeeze down and go through the .22 calibers without the really tight fit. Mine slide down very easy now.

I have a devil of a time getting the boresnake started on any of my .22lr and .223 rifles. The weighted end isn't heavy enough to get the overly thick string to drop through the barrel so I can pull it through. Sometimes stretching it very vigorously helps, but mostly it's just a pain. I've given up on the boresnake for now and just use the old rod/brush/patch system.

The boresnakes work great for my larger caliber rifles and all of my pistols, though...

Just don't get the Viper ones. I don't know why they changed so much from the original ones, but the .22cal one I have...I won't even use it on a gun anymore.

The Viper has twice as much brush in it than the old one.
