AR pistol - Need a bullet button?

I have an AR pistol (no stock, 10.5-inch barrel) that I bought new through a single-shot exemption. It's legal in CA. I have 10-round magazines. Since it's a PISTOL and has never been a rifle, does it legally require a bullet button?

I don't think the requirement to use a tool to release the magazine applies to pistols, even if the pistol shares a similar origin to an evil black rifle.

Not legal without a magazine lock, since the magazine is outside the pistol grip. PC 30515 (a) (4) (D).

Yes bullet button required. detachable magazine in front of grip violates 12276.1. Fixed magazine bypasses that. See flowchart.

WOW, why do people buy things without researching them FIRST. I really suggest that you look at the Handgun AW Flow Chart before you do ANYTHING with your new pistol. You've been a member here for over 5 years and obviously spent some time here. I'm not sure why you don't understand that a handgun is an AW if it can accept detachable magazines OUTSIDE of the pistol grip. IF your AR pistol has the magwell INSIDE the PG, no threaded barrel, etc. then it doesn't need a mag lock. But, since there is really no such animal, OF COURSE IT NEEDS TO HAVE A MAG LOCK!!!!!!!

Thanks for the clarification, especially to those polite enough to not have their panties in a bunch when answering.

              AR pistol:

              1.) Threaded Barrel. CHECK!
2.) Magazine outside pistol grip. CHECK!
              3.) Barrel shroud. CHECK!

Yup, definitely an assault weapon without a bullet button.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

Maybe there are some people that don't live on Calguns. They just might have a job, girlfriend, wife, kids, you know,,a life. You are very helpful most of the time, but your tone is definitely unwarranted here.

Nice of you to insult a fellow calgunner for pointing out the obvious.

I’m sorry that your panties are in a bunch about someone trying to keep you from getting in trouble.

Your question could have been answered if you used the flow chart (or even searched), alas you were too lazy and just posted a question that has been covered 1xN^googol.

so to answer you question, Yes it needs a BB.

5 years and almost 1000 posts later, you'ld think the OP would have known how to access and use the AW flowcharts or, at least know how to look up and read the actual text of the law.

It's been legal from day one with a bullet button. My question was intended to learn the LEGAL requirement as opposed to the "that's how things are done" mentality that we dealt with in black rifles just a few years ago. There's still enough FUD out there, including at many FFLs, that it's tough to tell when you actually need to do something or it's done because everyone (sometimes incorrectly) says it has to be done "that way".

A simple link to the handgun flow chart would have been nice. I didn't know that even existed. I provided the link for others.
