I always like the abuse of statistics by journalists. A 20% up-tick when you have few to begin with is meaningless. Ranking counties by number of permits is also misleading, since it doesn't account for population. Only the per-capita comparison is worth the ink (electrons) required to post it.

OMG...the gun owner stereotypes comments are painful to read. Creating an account now to speak my mind.

Damnit....they have to approve my comment first. I hope they do...

I'm a Pacific Islander. I drive a sports car. I am the software development manager at global financial company as well as the owner of a start up software firm. I have my license to carry in the State of California. My household is mostly liberal (leaning libertarian).

                Now what were you saying?

What it boils down to is that regardless of your fear of the crazy person, the deranged person, a redneck, a white racist, or other (insert your fear here) person.

You can not take the right away from an individual to protect him/herself and their family.

The crazies are the smaller percentage of the gun owning population. There are about 2.5 million defensive use cases a year (about one in every 13 seconds gone by). Take each of those rights away...you'll end up in 2.5 million tragedies each year that could have been prevented with firearms. All so that the world would be safer from a select few incidents that get huge media attention.

                  In response to Ken

The Obama who signed the carrying guns in national parks law? That Obama?

Lol exactly. Obamas actually expanded gun rights but who expects the ignorant red neck folk of Shasta county to know that. They believe any thing they hear on fox and assume it's fact.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't carrying in National Parks an amendment attached to a bill that Obama signed to prevent credit card companies from raising interest rates unexpectedly and then charging more fees? They make it sound like it was a bill Obama signed with the sole intent of allowing carry in National Parks and that makes him pro-gun.
