    Handgun for Bug Out Bag

I'd like to put a handgun in my BOB as well as the wife's. I don't want to spend a lot since these will just be sitting there like everything else and not used much.

This was inspired by a thread I started a few weeks back.

The fact that I already own a few Glocks in .40 makes me lean heavily towards it being my BOB gun. However I'd like some opinions on the the other guns I've listed.

I'd like to keep the price down to about $350 give or take.

I've narrowed it down a bit, but I'm still unsure.

    Glock 22 LEO trade-ins .40S&W

Pros - I already own a G22, I'm familiar with the platform and ammo
Cons - They are usually $350-$400 before TAX and DROS which is a bit more than I'd like to spend on a gun that will just sit

    S&W Sigma SW9VE

Pros - Price point is good for brand new
Cons - I have no experience with this firearm and I don't own a 9mm

    Hi Point

Pros - Price point is good for brand new, sub $200. Lifetime warranty. Comes in .45, .40, and 9mm
Cons - I have no experience with this firearm in any caliber

    FMK 9C1 9mm

Pros - Price point is good for brand new...seen on sale for $249, supporting a CA gun mfg, cheaper ammo
Cons - No experience with this gun not do I own anything in 9mm.

Thanks for any thoughts suggestions and opinions on any of these firearms.

    Again, do remember
There are no restrictions on in-vehicle carry(handguns: unloaded, locked case; long guns: unloaded), except to the extent that some destinations may prohibit firearms entirely (much of Federal offices/property), or to non-LTC holders (schools, colleges).
So far as I can tell, Glocks seem to tolerate neglect pretty well. Were I to choose to carry a handgun in my GHB, that's what I'd choose.

Don't forget a holster, subtle (better) or obvious; if you need it, you need it quickly. Unslinging your bag from your back or shoulder and digging out your pistol would be slow.

      +1
I think the Glocks tolerate neglect really well also
i think I'd make the same choice.

If you are already used to Glocks I'd stick with them. Magazine compatibility would also be an added benedit.

I would agree with this as well.

Glock 19. If you are bugging out it means a certain sequence of events have occurred. Having a NATO round pistol would behoove you.

              This^^^ Librarian nailed it again.

A Glock in a holster with some belt mounted magazine pouches.

A really good belt. Mainly because if you have to travel on foot, you want a good belt/holster combo.

A really good comfortable jacket with hood (hoodie alert..hahaha) that drops down mid thigh to hide and protect your Glock. You don't want people seeing you walk thru their area armed; they just might Rifle-you-down from afar.

Hopefully you will look like a man with a backpack, long jacket and hiking boots, traveling thru and minding your own business. You don't want to appear armed and you don't want to be carrying that AK or AR over your shoulder. In a crisis situation where neighborhood friends set up local areas of protection, you might have some nervous types who get trigger happy.

(Assuming a Giant Earthquake with roads cracked up, overpasses down, food riots and carnage at Ralph's and CVS stores.....Electricity down, perhaps water pressure failing, poor people looting stores, gangs setting fires; Los Angeles burning, hosptials over-wealmed, Police and Fire services are useless and you're stuck up in the Valley and have to Get Home to Orange County.)

So you have to leave the car and head out on foot. Seriously if this happened I would probably check into the closest Marriott or nice hotel and have a look see at the situation. (off topic)

But if I have to travel on foot...Keep the weapons available and ready but on the down low. Just my opinion folks.

For an emergency firearm I would go with the largest one possible for the type of carry you expect. Since all forms of pistol carry are illegal except locked case, Id think about a Kel-Tec folding rifle.
Go to 4:20 for the "talking points" review.
Go to 10:40 for a pic of the Kel-Tec folded.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I've decided to spend the extra and get some used Glocks in .40. This way, I can also buy 9mm barrels and mags and be able swap those into the gun and be able to fire 9mm as well as .40S&W.

The Hi Point is out. Too heavy and not enough capacity. Although in my short time researching the gun, it is fairly accurate and reliable using hot loads. Take down involves using a punch which is a negative for me. However, I may just pick one up just to play with.

The FMK is priced right and is 9mm which like Juice mentioned is a very common round. But, I'm not familiar with it. I think I'm going to pick one up anyways just to play with and to support a CA mfg.

The Sigma is a decent gun and I wouldn't hesitate to use it, however, I already have Glocks and I already have a bunch standard capacity (I refuse to say hi-caps) mags from way back.

So if you guys have any resources for used G22 or G23 please let me know.

                  Thanks all!

Wait you already have pistols but want to buy some just for those bags..... May I ask where you predict your current firearms would be? Your bob would be at home so why wouldn't you just throw your nice pistols in the bag if you had to leave?

Don't let her know you called her that.

Oh, and to answer the thread, I have a G19 and a Sub-2000 in 9mm that takes Glock mags that are in my "grab and go" bag. When I move to Washington this summer, my 33 round happy sticks can finally join in the fun in the grab and go bag.

"bug out bag" does not meet with the wife's approval. "Grab and go" bag does. Choosing my battles carefully, I've decided that I don't care what the bags are called.

I have a sigma, and it is stone cold reliable. Check out mrazyattic to see the video. Also the hi point in .40 and .45 aren't on the roster. Fmk is cool, I'd like to see it I almost bought one. I'd go with either the sigma or Ruger p95
