    School me on revolvers.

Ok, so I've only fired two revolvers. A beautiful Ruger Blackhawk that was filled with snake shot, and a S&W 500 with some special loads from a reloader here in MA.

I'm thinking of a revolver since I don't currently have one, and I'll just wait until I move to CA to get one. So thoughts on revolvers? I doubt legal CCW is in my future in CA, so it will be something I carry while out fishing or hunting, needs a little beef for bear, but more for man. The .50 is uber sexy, but I couldn't imagine getting more than a couple shots off before needing to ask for a time out and massage my candy wrists. What else should I be looking at? Sadly, a Python is NOT in my price range.

A revolver is on list of future purchases. I've been a big revolver fan since I was a little kid but never had one of my own. I'll probably get either a Smith & Wesson 686 or a Ruger GP100. I kinda like the S&W more and I am a lot more experienced with it, but I'm a big Ruger fan and the GP100 is less expensive.

the GP100 is a great buy, I got Satin Stainless with 50 rounds down the pipe for $350

Ruger customer service is superb as well, definitely a good group. My 10/22 had a couple issues, and they did crazy work to it gratis.

Now my assumption is that a revolver is less prone to mechanical failure, and in periods where you are out in the sticks camping or fishing, the fewer moving parts to fail, the better. Thoughts?

about the only thing I have ever seen stop a revolver is high primers (if you reload)

Don’t wait - Buy a Colt Python (or several) before moving to CA.

You can’t go wrong with a Python.

EDIT: NVM I just see you said it is out of your price range (are you sure???)
There are many smiths that are nice that can be had on the used market out of state for fairly inexpensive amounts.

Haven't seen one on gunbroker for sub $1900. My wife would likely end my life in my sleep if I did that. Also, a python is just a boy crush... saw it on Walking Dead, went ooooo, and then realized that they're all safe queens due to cost.

Was like having a beer with a Mr. Buzz Killington.

If I had a Python I would shoot the snot out of it. Do you own your stuff or does your stuff own you? Buy it, care for it, but shoot the darn thing. It was meant to be shot. Not sit in a safe.

The only gun my grandfather shoots anymore is his Python. Such a sweet gun. It must have hundreds of thousands of rounds through it by now and it's still awesome.

yeah but I could buy a new jeep or some good glass for my .308 for the price of a python.

So if the Python is the rolls, what's the working man's version of it?

While Colts are my fav,the older smiths are close behind.I would say to look for a 586. Theres nothing wrong with the rugers, but that S&W fit & finish is da bomb.

That is why you spin the cylinder after you load your rounds in the chambers.
