    Feelings on DPMS uppers?

    Hi,

I am very new to this site and this type of forum, I will try not to screw up Anyways, I was able to purchase three stripped lowers (2 Fultons, 1 Mega). I know some will cringe at the thought of Fulton lowers after what they did to the many users/buyers on this site. However, I found a vendor and he shipped them to my friends store (FFL). My theory was this: get what you can before the evil empire (DOJ) bans anything that looks/smells like an AW.

My question is this: Are DPMS uppers worth the price or are there others that will work just as well.

BTW... I am planning on fixing the mags, so as not to create an evil or oppressive weapon.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Well, I'm a DPMS fan. I went with a 16" bull barrel flat top built by CMMG. It shoots VERY well. I'd put it up against any AR upper at any price.

Hey thx for the reply! I am looking forward to building my toys.. I was thinking of building the mega into the 16" and the two fultons @ 20" (standard A2 & the other into a 6.8 bull barrel) Any thoughts?

I heard from another member on this board that his DPMS upper's Picatinny rail was not in spec. The notches were not cut to spec and therefore his mount did not work until he filed down the DPMS rail (part of his flat top upper).

Just be aware of this if you also are buying a flat top upper.

I consider DPMS a "second tier" brand. Below Colt, Bushmaster. Maybe lower than Armalite, Rock River. A lot of these makers get their small parts from the same manufacturer.

What you want is a high quality barrel, milspec receiver, high quality bolt and carrier. If you only intend to use your gun for occational fun at the range then you don't really need to spend the bigger bucks for first tier stuff.

My current AR service rifle was built with a DPMS upper receiver and their SS 20" barrel (they use Wilson barrels) since starting to shoot it since June and with a round count of 1100 so far.. I have had no FTF's or FTE's or any other malfunction... and I made High Master on the reduced 200yd courses with it. But!!! I will admit I built the upper assembly as well as the lower assembly myself.
