How to sell to a c&r?

Hello out there. Just a quick questions. I have an Rock Island that I want to sell and a c&r holder asked me if i could sell it to him. I don't see why not but my question is what do i need to do? How do i legally sell it to him without having to worry about the liability of not doing a legal transaction. Thank you for you guys' advice ahead of time.

Hand it to him, and get your cash. I think there might actually be some sort of extra step in pistols but somebody else should clear it up, because I just don't know enough to give an answer with confidence. I just know that if you have a gun that's over 50 years old and has not been extensively modified or changed, or "reproduced" then you can sell it FTF. That is until 2013.....

Are you talking about a Rock Island M1903 rifle?

What States are you and the buyer residents of?

Is the buyer local to you or are you going to ship the gun to him?

It's the Rock Island. I've gotten asked about selling to a C&R. I don't mind but I want to make sure that i'm legally cut loose and no longer liable for it after the sale.

Sorry, again. Apparently I cannot answer simple questions this late at night. I'm a California resident. no shipping. I presume he's a California resident, valid ID, C&R but I have to verify.

If FTF transfer between 2 CA residents, meet in a parking lot somewhere, shake hands, take his cash, hand him the rifle. The end.

He may ask you for your name, address, and CDL # to fill out in his bound record book.

If the buyer is a C&R FFL he will for sure need your name and address for his bound book. He will not need your CDL#.

If you are concerned about having "proof" that you no longer own the rifle, ask him to sign a receipt with a description of the rifle.

This process does not apply to handguns even if they are C&R.......in California those must be transferred through a FFL.
